Cleaning the flue cap screen from the bottom

I almost hate to post this, but will anyway. I usually pick a pretty decent day get my son a lawn chair set it in the door of the garage and have him knock as much off as he can with his pellet gun. I know, I know but I had the same problem and it works. You can see the junk fall off the...

    looking for a new insert

I have a Lopi Revere with a blower and it keeps our old house comfortable. Easy to use pretty basic. Was my Mom and Dads for years, mine now for 7-8 years. Few cracked fire brick, and a little maintenance, that's it. Never posted on your other thread just kept track of the situation. Glad you...

drying wood in your clothes dryer

Dissapointed in my self :hmm3grin2orange: I managed to avoid this thread until this morning, then curiosity and free time got the best of me. Idle hands really are the devils playthings. I must admit though. I did enjoy the destruction and a few of you guys views on this.

last night was a stove tester

Definitely a stove tester. Low of 3 here lastnight, still decent when I got up this morning at 4:45. Cold when I got home, wife apparently didn't load any wood or damper it down.:bang: Still a few coals and it's going now though.

This is why I do it

Besides getting to stick it to the gas man, it's nice to be a little self sufficient. Was cold lastnight "single digits anyway" NW wind was howling in the 20's and 30's. Power goes out grabbed our little generator plugged blower, insert, a light and TV in, back to normal. Only lasted about 3...

How cold is your house in the morning?

It's usually around 64 we never get it overly warm, old 2 story house lots of windows. Were always comfortable, especially in our family room where our insert is, keeps us out of the tv room that way.:blob2:

A few questions about a real tree.

Thanks so far with everything we have hard wood floors so cleaning up should be ok. Like the chainsaw idea too, just got a 011 running.

A few questions about a real tree.

Drying out Our biggest concern was if they dry out alot faster, posing a fire hazard. We have never enjoyed the fake trees, defiantly hoping to go a different way.

A few questions about a real tree.

This might be a little off topic, but I value your guys opinions. My wife and I are considering a real Christmas tree this year and it would be the first for either of us. Is it a bad idea since we heat with wood? It would be on the other end of our family room, approx. 24' away from our...

SUV questions which one to get

2000 durango Our experience with our Durango has been good. No major problems, routine maintenance and that's about it. Not great mpg though, approx. 15-16 hwy. 170,000 miles and runs good still plenty of towing power. 3rd. row seating gives all the kids room to spread out too. MHO Scott

    Whew, man.....

Well, got laid off just before Christmas and w/ all the family gatherings and nasty weather had not turned a tap in a couple, three weeks. I had cut some rounds out of logs that I had scored a couple months earlier, so thought I'd do some splitting by hand to shake off any cobwebs and extra...
