    Scrench Make?

The screnches I've gotten from Echo have the normal length screwdriver on them with it centered on the socket body, not the offset shorty that Tom posted. The only Echo scrench that I have that is any different is the one that came with my PPF-280 power pruner. It has a 10mm socket end on it...

Talk me out of an Echo CS620P.

I have not been disappointed in any of my Echo equipment. The oldest piece I have was bought in 2006, a GT-230 curve shaft weed eater, that runs good to this day. It's also my only oddball in that it's gray where all of my other Echo's are orange. Over the years my "fleet" has grown to include a...

Guide bar paint... what do you use?

Paint would definitely help with corrosion control, especially if one has to cut/prune palm trees.

    During Storm Clean Up Today....

Had something similar happen 2 years ago when cleaning up some brush. Chain was coasting to a stop after a cut when I lowered the saw (was at chest level) to move to a different spot. Barely felt the chain grab the chaps, and it only got the outer layer and not the fibers. Certainly solidified...

    Hand filing is for beginners?

Well said Philbert. Between my three saws, I have about half a dozen chains. I do not feel the need for a grinder with so few chains, so hand filing suffices for me. I stink at free hand filing so I bought the Granberg File n Joint. Works quite well for my purposes.

    Poulenc wild thing 2375 lol

FWIW they are fun saws to tinker with, and simple to work on. The lack of A/V stinks, especially if you run one for a length of time. Other than the A/V, they are decent performers, even better with a MM. Where in Alabama are you? I'm kinda close over here in Louisiana so I have some interest...

    Compression loss over time...

I agree. The Walbro "W" tool and the Zama "Z" tool are well worth the money. It is exceedingly easy to set the lever height wrong. Those height tools take all the guesswork out of it.

    Permatex motoseal

That Permatex 51813 in cured form is gasoline/oil resistant. The uncured sealant will wash out with gas, but that is limited to what little squeezed out from between the clamshell halves on the inside of the crankcase. Whatever squeezed out on the outside can be wiped off easily. The Right...

    Permatex motoseal

An excellent sealant for this purpose (no gasket, metal to metal, narrow clearance) made by Permatex is the 51813 Anaerobic Gasket Maker. 51813 is an anaerobic sealant, which means it only cures in the absence of air once the clamshell or cylinder is reassembled. Any squeeze out stays liquid and...

    Reusing gaskets

I only reuse gaskets if it is both in good condition and not torn or damaged. I'll make new gaskets if I need to replace. A sheet of 1/32 fiber rubber gasket material is fairly inexpensive. For holes I use either a hollow punch or a leather punch. I favor the leather punch for the steeper angle...

    Favorite Saw You Own

My CS-400 is my favorite, even more so after the muffler mod and re-tune.

    homeowner chainsaw decisions.

Same here. I bought my CS-400 in 2014 and at the time adjusted the screws so it didn't run lean but kept the limiters so I would run afoul of warranty issues. Never needed the warranty. This year I took the limiter caps off and also did the muffler mod. Like Steve said, it's like a different saw...

Tutorial: make your own raker depth gauge supported by software tool

I just picked up some 1/16" (1.5875 mm) aluminum to make one of these gauges this weekend. I'll post my measurement from a new loop of Oregon 91PX.

    Cheap (but decent) backup saw?

Poulan Wild Things are numerous and cheap, and given some semblance of care are good performers. Simple to work on as well. That said, I agree with a couple of posts above recommending the Echo CS-400. I've had mine for about 5 years now and it is built well. Out of the box it was good, but I...

    Sparkplug adapter for mityvac?

There's an easier way. Grind off the upper shoulder of the metal collar, all the way around the plug, and the insulator will just fall out. The attached picture has an arrow pointed to where you need to grind away. At the factory, the center electrode and insulator are inserted into the outer...
