Cordless Chainsaws and Outdoor Power Equipment

I'm staying with makita because they seem committed to the same battery format across the line. The same two packs run my drill, driver, circ saw, chainsaw, grinder blower and weed eater. I like some of the other brands individual tools better, but it's not worth the cost of new batteries and...

Cordless Chainsaws and Outdoor Power Equipment

I've seen that one too, kind of a strange product. I guess there's a hub motor in the front wheel? I don't see any drive chain/belt so it must be. I wonder how long it runs off a couple of 5ah batteries. It can't be that long, especially loaded down with weight

    Battery Powered Saws

I have the Makita 36v top handle and it's been great so far. Has done everything I've asked of it for basic homeowner use. As a plus, my string trimmer, angle grinder, circular saw, drill and driver all use the same batteries. I have two sets of the 5 amp/hr packs and one recharges before I...

Cordless Chainsaws and Outdoor Power Equipment

So I found a good pic of the drive train on this Ryobi mower. It's very similar to a golf cart - no hydraulics involved. Should be very reliable as long as the batteries hold out, and you don't overwork it (really tall grass, pulling heavy leads, etc.) It probably has a lot of control...

Cordless Chainsaws and Outdoor Power Equipment

That's interesting, I wonder how the drive mechanism works? It looks like there's a rear axle/differential that must be hooked directly to an electric motor. Or it might be a belt-driven hydrostatic transmission instead? I'm going to see if I can find a parts list anywhere online.

Rotary Chain Grinders - Dremel, Granberg, etc.

I've been looking hard at this Granberg model for a while now: http://granberg.com/product/g1012xt-precision-grinder I like the solid-looking mounting system and the ability to dial in the stops like on a disc grinder. I know if I tried to use a Dremel unguided I would end up with an even...

    HF Chain Grinder Thread

Thanks Ted, that's exactly the solution I've been looking for. I like the HF unit just fine except the clamp mechanism makes it functionally useless. I'll take some measurements and look for one of those clamp posts to fit. Do you happen to know the manufacturer of the one you used that was a...

    Which carabiners to buy nowadays?

Did a little searching but all of the posts are several years old. What do you guys recommend for life support carabiners? The selection is overwhelming - there are all kinds of different shapes, styles, materials, gate mechanisms, etc. What's good? Price is less of a concern than quality...

Tolerance for bed rails on sawmill?

In my experience it really doesn't matter very much. The slabs are going to cup, crack, warp and twist while they're drying so there's no such thing as precision until then. Just eyeball it, and plan to spend some time with a jointer/planer afterwards Sent from my HUAWEI Y536A1 using Tapatalk

What is the best all around saw "mid duty"?

Husqvarna has an excellent video series on YouTube on general saw safety and felling instructions. It was a big help for me Sent from my HUAWEI Y536A1 using Tapatalk

How to turn a lawnmower into a saw mill (bandmill) Build Thread.

Thx for the info! It might make sense to rig up some kind of spring-loaded gate at the beginning and end of the track to keep the carriage from rolling, especially if it takes a while for the blade to idle down. Maybe a foot-lever to disengage it?

Sweet! Are you using the mower's PTO clutch to turn the blade on/off?

Experience with aftermarket fuel lines for Stihl?

Ahh now I know, and I like him! Dave do you have any specific opinion on these parts? This is the listing I used: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291323493060?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I assume the same factory in China is producing these for all of the AM...

Experience with aftermarket fuel lines for Stihl?

eh, that's what I was afraid of. Guess I'll do a little test, for science, and see how long the aftermarket lines hold up.

Experience with aftermarket fuel lines for Stihl?

I have an MS260 that needs a new fuel line and figured I'd do the impulse line too. This is the kind of part that I prefer to stay with OEM, but my nearest dealer (1+ hr. away) has twice promised to call me back and blown me off. So I went on Ebay and spent a whopping $8 (with free shipping!)...

How to turn a lawnmower into a saw mill (bandmill) Build Thread.

Very interesting, great work! I had some doubts at first about that 90-degree belt system but if it's durable enough for a commercial product from Cub Cadet I guess it's fairly well proven. What kind of belts does it use? How did you size the pulleys? The mounts for the idler pulleys do...
