I'm thinking about building a small wood kiln

I will second the solar kiln idea. You could easily and cheaply make a greenhouse type shed and fill it with wood. Only expense would be a small fan to move moisture out of the building.

    In theory which is stronger

Thanks guys. I have no interest in a threaded splitter, but this was fun to read.

    husqvarna 268xp

I have a 268xp. It is a nice saw with a lot of power, but $500 is too much. Just my humble opinion of course. Have you checked the for sale boards here?

    Firewood co-op?

I find that doubling the man power while cutting/splitting/stacking wood triples the productivity. And yes, electric co-ops are the devils work.

    Wood heat for new house

If you don't have walkout doors but you do want to put your wood appliance in the basement, I would make sure to put a large enough opening window/egress in the room you plan to store the wood in. That way you can just chuck the wood in the basement from outside and don't have to drag it through...

    Wood heat for new house

Is your basement a walk-out? Will it be insulated? If you can easily get wood into your basement, a forced air wood furnace or wood stove down there would be very nice I think. It shouldn't take much wood to hear a small house with that much insulation. I like the idea of being able to drive a...

Little help with a wood ID

Hackberry. Maybe sugarberry which I haven't cut but I'm pretty sure it's really just hackberry by another name.

    Tale of Two Brothers

The newer 2nd burn stoves/furnaces do require very dry wood. Typically less than 20% moisture content. I would bet that is the cause of most of his problems, but I don't have any experience with the Ashley furnace. I am sure most standing dead oak is well above 20% moisture.

    Tale of Two Brothers

Do you have an indoor fireplace or stove? I would like an outdoor boiler as my main heat source, but would have to keep my insert. My kids and wife would be pissed if they didn't have a fire to warm their backside next to.

Would you pay extra for Hedge firewood

Comparing btu's, Osage doesn't have 50% more BTUs than white ash so I definitely wouldnt pay 50% more. I don't buy wood anyway, but would consider buying hedge if it was priced okay just for overnight burns. When you start looking at oak, locust, or mulberry the BTUs start getting closer.

Most snow you have gotten from a single storm

The biggest single snowstorm I can remember here in central Indiana was 22", but I wasn't alive for the blizzard of '78. We don't get a lot of big snow storms. Usually just a bunch of 3-6" storms that add up. Up north they get hammered with lake effect.

    So,poison Ivy doesn't bother you..

I too was one who thought I was immune to poison ivy. We would always play in and around it as kids and it never affected me. Then, as a teen, I was clearing some land at my parents property and burning everything. I must have burned some Ivy because that night my face and eyes swelled up huge...

    Barber chair

I've been following this thread and just wanted to say thanks. I have two EAB ash trees that need to be dropped. Both are leaners and I have been thinking about them for a few weeks now. One can drop with the lean, but the other needs to fall at a 90 to its lean. I am just a hack but have...

What close calls have you had?

I hear you brother. Last time I called my wife from the back of an ambulance before they loaded me up with fentanyl. Didn't want to be loopy for that phone call. Stay safe.
