    Wood hauler debate

A 53 block 12v truck isn't anything to be afraid of. Pretty much just the ISB 24v trucks had problems with the 53 blocks. Plenty of 12v 53 blocks out there, they just didn't leak like the ISB blocks did.

Central Boiler Leaks, Looking for advice

Have you been testing the water? Thats the key to getting the unit to last. Between that and ashtrol I hardly see how they could wear out.

Central Boiler Leaks, Looking for advice

Do you have a test kit? Or had the dealer test the water? I try to test mine twice a year. No need to change the water as long as you keep on top of the ph level.

Central Boiler Leaks, Looking for advice

How does your water test? I've had to add about 1/3 gal. of corrosion inhibitor per year with my 5036 to keep it up to snuff.

    Central boiler's ashtrol

IIRC ashtrol is closer to baking soda than lime.

    Educate me 'bout ash trees

Agree it won't put out dry wood heat, but it burns amazingly well when green. Around here the stuff is about 25% mc off the stump. 2 weeks or less and it is 20% or so. Maybe what you had had been sitting in water. lol

    Educate me 'bout ash trees

Great firewood! Will burn green quite well. Even in summer. Splits easy. Usually very predictable to fell. Coals nicely and even makes a good overnight wood. I'd bet 90% or better of the ash trees you'll find are white ash.

Help needed from experienced locust burners

I mix ash in with locust for a fire that is HOT and has plenty of coals. No better firewood than those 2 IMO.

what do you do about poison ivy vines?

I cut the vines every few feet after I've dropped the tree. Then the rest falls off on it's own while I skid it behind the Kubota.

New SpeedPro Kinetic Log Splitter from TSC...

I have Craftsman tools at home. At work(Honda auto tech) I use Sanp-On, Mac and Matco tools. Broken way too many Craftsman tools to count on them at work. I don't own any of the above hand tools that are made in China.

I understand what you are saying, but no Caddy is HALF as reliable as a Honda Accord.

    Tractor Tire Chains for snow

My MX5100 has the same size tires. Mine have been filled for 2 plus years now. I can push snow on flat ground only. Can only pull small stuff on snow and nothing on ice. It's useless on hills or ice. My tractor weighs a bit more than yours. Right at 6k with loader and me on it. More...

How often do you clean your outdoor wood boiler?

Rake the coals to the back and shovel out the ashes about every week when burning a lot. Maybe once a month in the summer. Add a couple scoops of lime/ashtrol every few days. Mine has burn in constant use since May of '09. CB5036.

Water Heater dead in 5 years!

I'm leaning towards the plate exchanger. How well does it keep up with demand with no tank?

Water Heater dead in 5 years!

My 2.5 yr old water heater is leaking. I had to remove the anode to get the side arm to work effectively. Is there any alternative to buying another water heater? I was thinking of maybe buying a tank and insulating it myself. I've never even had the breaker turned on for this thing. Not...

New SpeedPro Kinetic Log Splitter from TSC...

Which is exactly why I cut so much ash. Cut and split green ash. Within 1 month it'll be at or below 20% and burn great. I've never had the luxury of getting very far ahead on my wood supply to let oak season.

    sugar maple vs. silver maple

They have a large difference in weight. Dry or green. The silver maple cuts easier too. A mature sugar maple has bark resembling white oak. Silver maple bark peels in long strips vertically up the tree.
