Picture of wood from 7' diameter cottonwood

We burn 10 to 12 cords a year. Really not that hard to split after dry. Lots of ash, but it's what we have. It is possible to go 20 miles and not see a tree, s o we will take what we can get and be thankful

    Giant firewood tree

It really isn't that bad to split. I will noodle it down to chunks I can lift onto the splitter and have at it. There is a bit of logic when splitting cottonwood, follow the growth rings, avoid splitting it into pie shapes.

    Giant firewood tree

As of Sunday afternoon, all of the limbs are cut to 16 inches, all of the brush is in 2 piles and the field is clean and ready to go. All that is left to do is noodle the huge pieces down to a reasonable size to put on the splitter and whittle up the trunk. I will have a weekend finishing that...

    7 foot diameter firewood project

We got the entire tree cut to 16 inch length and all the brush cleaned up. 5 cords already home. I am guessing 6 to 8 left there.
