As much as I hate a frankensaw, best bet is to put a new 440 tank on it. The last 044 was from 2001-ish and most left are beat to hell. Unless stored in a cool dry place, plastic breaks down. I have a 044 tank from my last project, not as bad as yours but needs repair. Will be listing it soon...

The 046, 460 and 461 handles are a little wider but still fit. I’m looking for one also and might go aftermarket vs an oem at $170 on fleabay.

They were not sought after at all. It was stihl wanting to have a 85cc saw and maybe them trying to gain some epa credits. Why would you want the weight of a 660 with less power? I could see it filling a void in one’s collection though. It does look nice and I’m sure would run well if ported.

I agree with EG, a well ported 261 is the cats azz. Sounds like you have the big saw area covered with the 038. If your 261 gets the most use, mail it off to one of the well known builders such as Kevin.

There are a few ways to do a 261. You can go cheap with fish gills on the recoil handle side. West coast saw and hmwf worksaws makes deflectors you can weld or bolt on that looks much nicer and use a screen. The wcs 3 point dogs/spikes are real nice also if you plan to use the saw to fell a lot...

You will love a 261 vs the 290. If the funds are there and his price is decent, definitely get the light weight bar. There are other brands of lw bars also such as Sugi. As for oil, get the Stihl oil for warranty purposes but keep it on the shelf and start using Amsoil dominator. Stihl ultra is...

You will pay as much for a nice 200 as you would a 261. I run a 20" ES light on a muff modded 261, like to grab it when the 70cc saws get a little heavy. Between the 2, I'd go for the 261 as it can do more but still light for the power it makes.

A rear handle 200 is what you seek. Those little saws are animals. I run a 14” and 16” on mine and love it for the small stuff. Dyno joe was getting some good numbers from a echo 2511 but it was ported.
