Logging Pics In My Time Away From AS

i don't chase pulp/firewood too hard, but if it is somewhat readily available, "feasible to get" i'll go for it while topping. we don't have a whole lot of market for it, so i'm pretty picky as far as that goes. most the it i just use for firewood and haul home with my gooseneck dump trailer...

the G is just a model designation, started in the '70's as a 540, then, 540A, 540B, 540C, 540D, 540E, skipped F, 540 G, 540 GII starting in '99 i believe, 540 GIII '02 if memory serves me. 8-10 trees an hour is a long running average, cutting trees, like that walnut and white oak you may...

    First Day With the 440

battery operated grease gun One od the best things ive bought is a Lincoln 18v grease gun. If your gonna own equipment that takes grease ib recommend it. Another trick, when u get time, do some measuring and go to a local hydraulic shop, buy caps and plugs for the proper fittings /lines that...

This is all select cut, none if it is marked, it is all by diameter, i carry a diameter tape in my pocket, 18" dbh is usually about the smallest we cut. normally 20", so spot a tree, if it is close measure it and cut it, if its small go to the next one. In a good patch of timber you don't have...

sycamore can be used for pallet stock, ties, mine timbers, or in this instance it was gonna be sawed into roof bolt blocks for the coal mines, its in the .20-.35 price bracket. That 344E is sweet, when i got it i didn't know if it would be big enough (was really looking for a 444 E,G or H...

surprising enough it didn't hurt the crank or cylinder, i cleaned up the crankcase and there is no issues there, im gonna hone the cylinder and put in a new piston, this saw does nothing but buck up logs.

    It's Been Awhile

Im done with the storm damaged stuff, it is too far gone for us to justify it. That storm damaged stuff could be a PITA as times, other times it wasn't all that terrible. East of the Big Muddy... hmm.. i cut a job east of desoto, maybe that was it? i can't remember all of them, lol...

Already searched and didn't find it, will an 066 piston work in an 046 BB?

i would have measured the 046BB piston but there isn't anything left to measure, lol. managed to not hurt the cylinder, so im gonna hone it and put a piston in it, this saw has hundreds-thousands of hours and just wouldn't stop, used for nothing but bucking up logs for the last several years...

    Gone and done it

Im only about 45 minutes from Schaefers, and have a pretty good working relationship with them, finding an arch that was made for the 550H used is gonna be hard to get, they get gobbled up as soon as they come in on a machine or get taken off the machine before they get scrapped. now, a person...
