    Pacific Northwest GTG

Ironbark, The Pacific NW GTG was a tremendous success. We certainly look forward to seeing you and your wife at the next one. Jon AKA Turbocaster

    Pacific Northwest GTG

Slowp, Thanks for the info on the candle. It seems like the ideal starting point for making a candle would be having a hollow log about 10 to 14 inches in diameter. Other than having a hollow log, it would be nice to do the boring cuts in the end of a long log, then cut it off. I assume...

    Pacific Northwest GTG

I'm sorry that I missed the campfire on the first night of the GTG. I am intrigued by the "campfire candles". Do you put anything inside the hole? i.e some sort of tinder, wax, cedar kindling, etc. It also looks like there is a air intake near the bottom (small slice made about an inch up from...

    Pacific Northwest GTG

The GTG was a tremendous success. I had a ton of fun, even though I only made it to the second day. Hopefully next year I will be able to show up both days. Bob, I was so excited about the saw that I bought today that I went straight to my tree farm and gave it a good workout. It performed...

    Pacific Northwest GTG

BigBadBob, It's nice to hear that you will be attending the get to gether this coming weekend. I have been carrying something in my 4runner for the past two years that I want to give to you. It is certainly something you can use, although not of much value. I'll be at the GTG on Sunday...

    Pacific Northwest GTG

Crosscut saw sharpening Slowp, I can sharpen crosscut saws well enough that they will pull chips. Certainly not good enough to have someone use one in competition. I can show you what I know at the GTG. I'll be there Sunday only. Have fun! Jon AKA Turbocaster

    Pacific Northwest GTG

Hi everyone. Turbocaster here. I've been busy and I have not been keeping up on what's happening with the GetToGether. I'll be tied up on the 12th. Hopefully it's OK if I just come down for the 13th. Can someone send me the directions of how to get there? I have a "new to me" Husky...

    Hello from the DOG

Bookerdog, Let's pick a date for the next GTG as soon as we can. It gives people a chance to plan their schedules better. We need to get River Rat to commit to the date. I'm so happy I could just spit. I traded a laptop computer for a couple of Husqvarna chainsaws; 372XP and a 181. Maybe...

    Hello from the DOG

Next Pacific NW GTG Bookerdog, As I remember, there was talk at the last Pacific Northwest GTG about having the next GTG at your place. Has an approximate date been set? I'm ready anytime. Enjoy your time fishing and having fun! Jon

My saw box is really a sled

That's a great idea. I moved my firewood around with a wheelbarrow for many years. Early this summer I bought a garden cart with a big plastic box on it like yours. It carries at least twice the wood and pulls easy. My garden cart is rated at 800 pounds, so I don't have to worry about putting...

    I received a Free Husqvarna 181 - Compression 175 pounds

TanToy, Nice Husky 181. It looks like yours came with a chain brake and it was taken off. My clutch cover is different, looking like it never had the chain brake. I need to do some work on mine to get it running right. It starts missing after running a few minutes. This weekend, I'll put...

    I received a Free Husqvarna 181 - Compression 175 pounds

Andrethegiant70, Thanks for the info on what to look for on my saw. I will replace the fuel line. I don't know if it is the original; if so it's 24 years old. Great suggestion on loosening the fuel cap when it starts acting up. If it's from a blocked vent, that should tell me right away. Jon

    I received a Free Husqvarna 181 - Compression 175 pounds

I took the 181 Husky out today, to cut some red alder logs into firewood. I could not get it started until I put some gas down the spark plug hole. After that it started right up. It ran very well for about 15 minutes and then started missing. It felt like it wasn't getting spark consistently. I...

    I received a Free Husqvarna 181 - Compression 175 pounds

I was surprised at getting a free saw with 175 pounds of compression. The saw had not been run for 3 years, although the gas had been drained out of it. I put fresh gas in the tank and a few drops in through the spark plug hole. It fired up in about five pulls. I wish it had a compression...

    I received a Free Husqvarna 181 - Compression 175 pounds

Scooterbum, Did they normally come with a chain brake? The IPL shows one. I wonder if the brake was removed. I assume the chain brake was part of the side cover. Jon

    I received a Free Husqvarna 181 - Compression 175 pounds

Scooterbum, Thanks for the IPL! I will see if I can buy the proper muffler and top cover. After I get it back to original shape, I'll may sell it. For now, I want to cut some wood and see how it compares to my Husky 372XP. Jon

    I received a Free Husqvarna 181 - Compression 175 pounds

Thanks for the info. Scooterbum, There is a tag that says Husqvarna 181 SE on the saw. The flywheel numbers are: 501 80 22-01 AM5/120E (arrow) W506 (not sure if that is an "E" after the 120) The serial number on the saw is 51025XX. There is a date hand scribed in the saw tag that...

    I received a Free Husqvarna 181 - Compression 175 pounds

I was just given a Husqvarna 181 with a 32 inch bar and .404 pitch chain. I used some purple cleaner and hosed it off. It has 175 pounds of compression and runs good. Something isn't right though, as the top cover doesn't match the muffler. (see bottom picture) I'm suspicious that the top...
