    Stihl BR 550 Blower issue

I liked the BR550 I was using so went to the stihl dealer first. They were out of any backpack blowers and said they had no idea when they would get any in. So I went down the road to the Husky shop and they had this 580mkII in stock so I picked it up. Pretty lucky to have both a good stihl and...

    Stihl BR 550 Blower issue

He seemed to think it was maybe the bearings the impeller shaft is on have some play in them or something along those lines. Whatever the issue, I sold it to a guy who was pretty confident he could take of it.

    Stihl BR 550 Blower issue

I figured out how to fix it. I messed with the fuel delivery. Checked for for line blockage but it just didn’t seem to be the issue. I didn’t want to end up $100-200 in parts and the better part of a weekend to not be able to figure it out. So I sold the Stihl and picked up this Husky. I had...

    Stihl BR 550 Blower issue

Yes, I adjusted the valves a week ago and it didn't make any difference for the issue. How do I check the accelerator pump on the carb?

    Stihl BR 550 Blower issue

Hey Guys, Got an issue with a Stihl BR550 blower that I am having trouble figuring out. It's older and I got it used so I don't know the history of the unit. I've had it for a couple years now and it's usually run pretty well. Lately though, while it generally starts pretty easy and will stay...

OEM vs cheap aftermarket oil pump

Great idea. I went with gear drive instead of belt drive and it worked great.

OEM vs cheap aftermarket oil pump

Taking the pump apart was pretty straightforward. Just need to remove the pin that holds the adjustment piece in place and everything slides apart. There didn’t seem to be anything gummed up or jammed in there. The hoses were still supple and free from cracks. Any idea where the tank vent is...

OEM vs cheap aftermarket oil pump

Cool thanks. Still a chance the pump might be ok and if the tank vent is plugged a new pump won’t change anything. I’ll check the tank vent first and if that’s not it I’ll try disassembling the pump and cleaning it. If the disassembly is destructive, I’m no worse off than I am right now anyhow.

OEM vs cheap aftermarket oil pump

I think it may be the pump. The pump is pushing oil, just doesn’t seem to be much. I checked the lines and they’re clear. I spun the pump by hand using the clutch from with the pump and lines mounted to the unit, I could see it was moving some oil. I’ve also had the oil leak issue and looking at...

OEM vs cheap aftermarket oil pump

I’ll give that a go. It’s looking to rain here for the next week so I need an indoor project anyhow. Is there a good way to test the pump independently from the rest of the oiling system, make it easier to see whether it’s the pump or a clogged delivery system?

OEM vs cheap aftermarket oil pump

Pretty moderate temps, on the warmer side generally. Basically all seasons in Central Valley California. I use the bar oil the local saw shop sells. Something I’ll keep in mind but I don’t think that’s the issue here.

OEM vs cheap aftermarket oil pump

So I’m having some issues with my saw oiling (357xp) and I’m considering replacing the pump to test if that’s the issue. The aftermarket knockoffs are all over amazon for $10-15 and the OEM are $35+. Anyone have experience with the aftermarket? Are they worth getting or am I better off to just...

    357xp parts help

It mates with the clutch drum. Unless you’re meaning both go on the clutch drum and must match for width?

    357xp parts help

It does turn. How much resistance should there be? It’s pretty easy to turn with a thumb and forefinger but it won’t really turn with one finger running across the top.

    357xp parts help

Hey guys I’m back. After getting my chain brake issue taken care of it seemed like the chain wasn’t oiling properly. I got into it and it appears the gear that turns the oil pump is stripped out. I also noticed the needle bearing was missing a bearing so I’m going to get one of those as well...

Husky 357xp Chain Brake Shoulder Bolt

Long overdue update. I replaced the existing shoulder bolt with a through bolt. Used a hex nut as the shoulder. We will see how it hold ups. Used loctite so hopefully it doesn’t vibrate loose. Probably should have found an allen bolt but didn’t have one in the right size. My next project is a...

Husky 357xp Chain Brake Shoulder Bolt

I really like it. It weighs less than that Echo and cuts easily twice as fast. I regret not getting sooner. I did split all the wood by hand. Ended up being around 5 cords total. Yes, it was quite the workout. Much like my regret of not getting that saw sooner, I regret not renting a splitter...

Husky 357xp Chain Brake Shoulder Bolt

Yeah, you're right. I didn't realize the crankcase was all one (well two halves) piece like that. I had a small engine pictured in my head that was bolted to an orange chassis. The good news for me though is that this bolt isn't going into a critical part of the case assembly where there...

Husky 357xp Chain Brake Shoulder Bolt

I was mistaken. The bolt does not go into the case itself. It is the correct bolt though that I have. It matches the chain side bolt.
