What do yall run for a crew?

IF we all did things the same way, the only way we would get jobs would be to work cheaper then everyone else. We have to figure out how to do it better/faster/safer/cheaper..

    Bar combo for Stihl 441

Lbd?? Sbd?? LBD?? SBD?? Funny, I didn't realize that I should be measuring my manhood by the length of my bar. But don't you worry, I do use all of the power this saw has to offer.

    Speaking of Yellow pages...

No yellow pages for me.. In my experience... When a new customers calls, I say "how did you hear about us?". Invariably, if they say "yellow pages", I get to the bid site and see the other 32 trees companies are there doing the same bid. Then the homeowner generally chooses the lowest bid...

    Bar combo for Stihl 441

Can't Vote.. I thought I would chime in as I seem to be the odd man out. I run a 16" on my 441. I have a 20" and a 25" in the truck just in case. In the year that I have been runing the saw, the 25" bar has only been on the saw 1 time. Generally I like to run short bars.

Which bar length do you most commonly use on a 50 C.C. chainsaw?

Why? You might like it. You may find that you have been carrying around extra bar for nothing. :) You may find that it reduces the leverage the saw has and gives you more control. You may find that it easier to keep track of the tip. You may Think WOW! this STINKS!!! Give me back my 36" bar...

Which bar length do you most commonly use on a 50 C.C. chainsaw?

Try running the shortest bars you can for a week.

Which bar length do you most commonly use on a 50 C.C. chainsaw?

I do have smaller saws, I do climb. A) My 200 does not get used on the ground, period. B) the 019 and the CS300 and the 200 are all top handle and I wouldn't have any ground guy run them. Hmm? Running a saw with the bar you "need" and the power you "want"? Makes sense to me. I used to measure...

Which bar length do you most commonly use on a 50 C.C. chainsaw?

Too funny.. I am not in Norway, I wanted this saw for limbing. I also have my ground guy run it alot. Cutting a 6" limb with a 18" bar seems kind of crazy to me. It is easy to lose track of where the other end of the bar is. Or if you are cutting out towards the tip of the bar, you lose a lot...

Which bar length do you most commonly use on a 50 C.C. chainsaw?

Grrr! I have a MS260 "pro".. I would love to run a 12" bar on this saw. The shortest bar that I have been able to find is 16". I talked to Stihl directly, the engineer that I talked to said that 16" is the shortest bar that Stihl will "Authorize" for use on the MS260. Freakin A!!! I am not...

    Storms start somewhere.

I saw a big pine tree get hit by lightning last night. It was 3-400 feet from where I was. Ok, that happens. The part that struck me strange (pun intended). Was that there was no activity leading up to it. Yeah the sky was covered with dark clouds. But I didn't see or hear lightning in the...

    Know when to walk away..

Thank you! Thank you all for the feedback. Right or wrong, I would have made the same choice but it's nice to know others would have made the same choice. Brendan

    Chest deep..

Cut up a tree chest deep in the Conneticut river today.. You know, when you get tired and relax your arms for just one moment.. You saw quits IMMEDIATELY upon submersion?!? Lucky that I was using an old 019T and an 031AV. I left the newer saws at home for this one. Fun! I put tension on the...

    Know when to walk away..

I walked away from a job today for the first time. I had bid on a LARGE dead elm tree. The homeowner had assured me that it had been very alive last year. I was under the impression that elms did die very quickly so that it could be completly dead yet sound. I set up to rig the tree, climbed up...

    laser pointer?

Laser It could be because I was exposed to laser light in a factory that I worked in.. BUT, if I use my green laser I get an instant headache. I don't have to have it in my eyes, just looking at the green dot does it. :(

    friction hitch

Vt I learned on a Blake's. While at the TCIA expo, I picked up a Bee-line eye to eye and came home to try the VT. WOW! I like that knot! For some reason, the Blake's seemed to tighten up on me. Especially minding the slack by pulling up on the tail, often I would end up with a sore shoulder...

    Tree swing knots..

Hi Folks, I have been asked to install a tree swing. Does anyone have any feedback about the best way to do that, while minimizing damage to the tree? Should I try to convince them to move the ropes/knots every year or two? Thanks in advance for any help. Brendan

Ooops! Took it down and put it back up?!?

Took the top third off this post, it fell straight down and stuck in the ground hard enough so that I needed to notch it and fell it all over again. I wonder if the homeowner noticed that there was a "new" stump?? bclure
