    CA Black Oak Milled

If you spray, the dead ivy still has urushiol ( the active ingredient of the skin irritant) for two years so that isn"t really an option.

    CA Black Oak Milled

I was just noticing how few Black Oaks we have up at this camp. (off of 108 at 6000') This place used to have tons of it and no poison oak! Those are nice looking slabs.

    Bear carvings

Those are cool! I've tried it once but don't really have any small saws for the more detailed parts. One of these days...

    Outworked 4 teenage boys...

I'm involved in scouting and I get to see first hand how kids how lazy kids are getting. I do have to put some of the blame on the parents though I have to say the kids are not being helped by anyone. (schools, churches and etc). It is scary that some of the kids don't know how to hold a shovel...

Spalted Pecan on a St. Charles

I like the materials you can use. Plastics, woods and metals I am assuming. I always think about making them but I can't see a huge market for them. Unless I give them as gifts I would have hundreds of them laying about. I do like the pics and styles.

Milled a couple of logs this weekend

It's nice to see other peoples work. I just mill odd logs to make birdhouses. Nothing fancy, just fun.

A day in the log yard.

I liked the clip. We (the camp I volunteer at) use Big Creek lumber co.out of Davenport. A nice outfit.

Falling wedges. What's good, what's not, and why?

I have only a couple of 6" and more of the 8"ers. I tend to use more wedges than most since the wood here is so dense that the trees tend to sit back due to interlocking branches. They just need a little encouragement to start heading over.

    The Hippies Are Near Here!

Were we get to feed, bath and cloth them. These people fly, rent cars or hitch hike to get there. They have regulars jobs and etc. They give hippies a bad name.

    Trail cutting chainsaw

I am past the point of having to bend over too often. I like my 26 inch bar on my saw. (I'm 6' 6") Yes, I still swamp what I cut so I bend over plenty.

    Misery Whip

I use a six foot two man bucking saw at the national forest where I volunteer. I also use it to teach Scouts how to do non power tool trail maintenance at the camp. A friend of mine sharpens it for me whenever I need it. These saws are alive and well in our wilderness areas out here.

Got my log arch / ATV hauler built

I remember trying to learn in high school and my teacher saying "well not everyone can do this" as he took the tools out of my hands. Besides it would be one more thing I would have kicking around. I would rather get the arch and go on with my other projects. Thank you.

Got my log arch / ATV hauler built

Not having the welding abilities I was looking at a store bought one a week ago. I admit that looks really nice.

    Size of spitter.

I've learned more about splitters than I can believe. The garden centre, where I would be having this serviced said to give him the model number so he can make sure that the parts are available. I can't even pick up the rounds, so I do need a vertical splitter. Thank you for the input.

    Size of spitter.

This is the kind of answer in need. Because of the camp, only I and one or two others will be using it. The one I currently rent has a manual reverse, so I stand there and wait. I didn't know they were out there. I'll look at this 4 way thing. I have some rounds that are 40+ inches...

    Size of spitter.

I've been looking around at craigslist, being California the prices are just higher. It also looks like, since I do mostly soft woods there isn't a problem in size. We have an auction place here. I'll look. Thank you. I seldom split it outside for my own use. Most of it gets taken by the...

    Size of spitter.

I read the posts here first, then was wondering about why there are so many sizes. The one thing I didn't want was to get something that couldn't do the job. Craigslist was a little light on detail right now. Vertical sounds like the way to go, since I don't want to have to pick up some of...
