    For the hotblast owners

Weird, I've had 15 hour burns and consistently get 9 hours with the furnace outside and uninsulated. Temps under 20 degrees I can get 8 hours and a warm house.

Help me pick a new splitter

I wanted an SS myself with the possibility of selling wood down the road. Couldn't justify the cost to the warden. Ended up with a DHT 22 ton. It splits fast but I will still dream about an SS. Glad you got what you wanted.

How's your 2017 firewood coming along?

Funny you say that. My wood here in The foothills of NC is mostly hardwood (red maple, white/red oak, hickory) which typically takes a few years to season. I swear with the weather this past summer I have some pretty dang seasoned oak that's been stacked maybe a year and a quarter.

    Splitter Woes

I needed one bad. I had more wood than time. I'm already catching up. Had it two days and it's probably seen a cord just in the short daylight between work and dark.

How's your 2017 firewood coming along?

Large red oak limb that fell this summer with many branches. Half a cord or more of easy wood. 20 rounds of dead on the ground red oak I've bucked but not pulled out of the woods. A couple dead reds near my tree stands. Some white oak and maple pole wood where the loader pushed brush down into a...

    Splitter Woes

The original spark plug was a Kohler brand. Looked fine besides a burr on the thing that actually sparks. I'm used to 2 strokes where a fouled plug looks fouled. I kinda feel shorted, build date on mine was June of 15 but the sales guy at lowes kept telling me it was a 16 model. Didn't check til...

How's your 2017 firewood coming along?

Depending on what I end up burning this year, I should have a cord or two of 2 year CSS to carry over and then start on the 3 cord CSS holz hauzen I've almost capped off with cherry/red oak/maple/poplar I cut in October. Been working on splitting up the dump truck load of logs I got from a buddy...

    Splitter Woes

Put the spark plug in and ran pretty good while I split quite a bunch of oak and maple. It did stall out twice but cranked right back up.

Lowes gave me a free spark plug I will try this afternoon.

    Splitter Woes

Been after the wife for quite some to let me buy a hydraulic splitter. Yesterday whilst xmas shopping she said yes. To Lowes we went bc I had already decided on a 22 ton DHT. Split just a few rounds when I got it home before it got dark. No issues, plowed thru knotty maple and white oak. Today...

Having what seems to be a draft issue

I have a hotblast in my carport with the triple wall pipe going up through the roof and over the pitch of the roof. My chimney cap screen gets clogged first. Hot fires morning and evening dont help. its just a function of the beast. The medium temp (35-45 degree) days kill me with creosote...

Post pictures of your woodpile/splitting area

It's gettin there. Decided to try something new to try to save some space. We'll see how it works. Cherry, maple, poplar and a bunch of oak.
