Does anyone burn Tamarack in the Eastern U.S.?

Yep I burn and mill all I can get.

    Short Wood

Those short ones can get really hot if loaded heavy in the stove.

    Firewood length?

I only cut for my own use. I can have anything from 6" to 20". I have ugly stacks but the stove doesn't seem to mind at all.

    my mothers day afternoon...

We had four inches of snow on the ground, 20mph wind, then ice, and then rain. It was a perfect day for a big dinner and some time on the reloading bench.

Buying some woods. How do I finance?

I bought my land for $21,000 for 89 acres. It is located on non maintained roads with no power. The owner held the note. I put 40 tillable into a CRP program in which the gov’t paid ½ the cost of my seedlings and half of the planting. (26,000 seedlings) I did the planting and land prep so I got...

Buying some woods. How do I finance?

This is how I bought mine: My family had rights to hunt this farm and so did a second group. Our groups just butted heads. I had enough and went to the owners nicely and asked if they were interested in selling. Come to find out they were and wanted to hold the note. They wanted the steady...

Buying some woods. How do I finance?

Contact your local USDA office before you buy and find out what programs are open in your area. Then try to fit the land to the program. They may also know of some land coming up for sale. There is free money out there. The best of luck to you.

So I wanna plant some trees...

Check with your local Farm Service Agency or local USDA office there may be a CRP or SIP program your farm land qualifies for. I put 40 tillable into a CRP program back in the early 90’s. They paid for half of the planting and seedling costs. The best part they paid a rental fee for the next 15...

The add - I have several stumps that were dug up last year all piled up. If you have any need for them...come and get them. Please call 440-4908. Thanks Black powder time.

Kiawe for wood working - beats the heck out of me. I screw up only the stuff that is milled on my own mill and grown locally. I really don't need to pay any more for flat stacking fire wood...I am more of a wood user than a wood worker!

Well that is an interesting idea - postal trading of wood. I will trade you one large flat rate postal box of “X” wood for one large flat rate postal box of your Kiawe. You can cube the piece down so that it just fits in the box (under 70lbs) and ship it out for (I think) $12. For small wood...

I dislike doing wood in the summer. I don't know how you do it. Welcome.

    I have noticed something here.

A man needs to take care of the mind and body. There is nothing more relaxing in the winter then sitting it front of a warm fire, watching the flames, and hearing the sounds. Sure I like saving money but when my body can no longer do wood I will be buying it for the reasons I already stated.
