Thanks man, I found out what they are, birch shield bugs. My co worker said stink bugs too but they didn't stink when smashed.

    Help identifying beetle

We're seeing tons of these beetles in the crowns of Birch trees in Alaska. We're also seeing Birch trees leaves browning already, I think it's from these beetles. Any help would be appreciated.

    Best 30cc Chainsaw?

A 201t would be great but you're usually talking 5-$600. If you're not going to use it often I think the 170 or if they still have the 180s would suit you, especially for the price.

    Tree "care" vs. Tree felling

Everything ATH said. My crew does about 75% removals, 25% pruning and toping. We remove alot of cottonwoods and Aspen because they're a pain in the ***. We've fell a couple of big cottonwoods that seemed as old as time. On trees like that I always take part of it home. My coffee table is a 3'...

    Groundmen say the darnedest things.

The climber for sure. He's broke stuff, and he owned it.

    Groundmen say the darnedest things.

My issue with that is my foreman who isn't a climber tries to tell our climber how to bring down the tree. He does the complete opposite of what she says, I love it. He has over 20 yrs experience, she has 2.

    Epoxy on axe heads?

Does anyone know when manufacturers started using epoxy to fasten axe heads instead of 2 wedges? I know Norland used it alot. I found an old wetterlings marked saw that was epoxied. I don't know if that was factory doing or previous owner. I'm really just trying to date the head.

The handing down of the maul

That's an awesome maul, you don't see that design much or at all anymore. I'm sure they will appreciate and cherish it as you have.

    whadja do today?

Lol, we did a wind fall on Friday. This lady "couldn't get out of her drive". We show up expecting to buck a big cottonwood. There was a little willow covering half the drive, she could have gone in the grass a bit or drive over the top. Oh well, easy $100 for 3 minutes of work.

    Wire gate carabiners?

I don't doubt you or your reasoning but is the triple action an ANSI standard or just a rule of thumb?

    Wire gate carabiners?

I have a few triple action but I prefer the screw lock. I could see a wire gate to hold lanyards and what not, but then it only has 1 purpose.

    Wire gate carabiners?

What's the deal with wire gate carabiners? They seem wicked unsafe. I know they have the average kn rating but what about the gate unintentionally opening? I've read 3 different articles on them and not 1 mentions the hazard. What's your opinion?

    double tie in advice?

Today I realized I have a mental block at about 30-35 feet. I was 100% comfortable to that point. Is that common for new climbers?
