McCulloch 610 chain brake guard install, help?

They changed it because the original was metal and easily broke. While I would not advocate for eliminating safety devices I would not dump a lot of money into it. Those saws pop up all the time for $25. Id wait for that, then you would have a good parts saw. The 610 is big, slow, heavy and ugly...

    Stihl ms 290/310

I had a 290 one time that had a crack in the oil pan. I spotted it while replacing the top end. It would have been easy to miss. Im guessing the saw was dropped from a tree or truck.

    Did you replace the plug?

Replacing the fuel line and filter seems like a no brainer if you are replacing the cylinder and piston. How does the plug look?

There where two different variations but the mechanics should be the same.

    McCulloch Chain Saws

"The only saw that revs 30% higher rpms to cut max compared to others. Thus these saws are equivalent to newer bigger engines and perform heavier tasks in shorter times."🤔😂🙄

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Them old macs have a lot of parts. You really need to be a mac specialist to work on some of them. I have a few of them ive been farting around with for a few years. My 1-70's compression is really high. Literally broke the starter in half pulling on it. Later discovered the points plunger was...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Good information Mark. I'm trying to put a plan together before I dive in. A quick look on eBay didn't help much. Porting a basic 10-10 may make more since. It's a shame rechroming these old cylinders are so expensive. Thanks. Jason.

Soaking spark arrestor screen in Brake Cleaner?

Burn it off. I take off the muffler and burn the carbon out of the muffler also when they are that bad. It is a good time to inspect the exhaust port.

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Which 70cc cylinder works on the 10-10S? Is the Insulator the only thing that needs modifying and will stacking gaskets work? Thanks. Jason.

Want to Sell Husqvarna 281XP 300th anniversary

My last couple of craigslist sales where to folks that looked like they where debating on roughing me up and taking it. Im a fairly large guy and always carry. I position my shirt so it is obviously printing but not exposed. Be careful out there guys. Folks are not just weird but more dangerous...

    I did a thing!

I use a 1/4 dewalt impact driver. No problems. Many builders much smarter than me on here do the same. If its not an option I use 550 cord I always have it on hand.

    I did a thing!

How it looks and the problems it can cause like the chain getting tight. Also replace the chain when replacing the sprocket.

    I did a thing!

Let the chain do the cutting instead of leaning hard on it. Use oem parts. Keep the chain out of the dirt, it only takes a second to dull the chain. Recognize a worn sprocket. During long cuts back off once and a while and allow the saw a second to "catch its breath" for just a second. Those are...

    Poulan 3700, worth fixing?

Id replace the fuel filter and fuel line. They are cheap piece of mind. Great firewood saw!

Chain locks up, smoke from clutch, chain and bar suddenly super-tight

If the chain smoked then it will not hold an edge. For the seal just make sure the heat didn't get to it to the point of burning or melting.

    Homelite 360 Keeps Flooding Out

You went and Done it now.😂 Leon cleared it up today sighting your post. Kudos to him. Pretty informative video in my opinion. I've learned a lot from him over the years especially when it comes to old Homelites.

Chain locks up, smoke from clutch, chain and bar suddenly super-tight

That sprocket is as worn as I have seen them. Replace the sprocket, bearing and inspect the crank seal. May as well go to a rim sprocket. I bet the chain is toast also.

Make sure the bar matches the saw and it is in fact oiling. Sounds like a no oil situation like stated above.
