088 barrel on older MS 880

You can fit a newer bolt on type exhaust barrel onto the older MS 880's (clip on type exhaust) with some modification to the exhaust, threaded rod, locked nuts, make some new lower exhaust brackets, spring washers, aluminium wedges, retaining washer, gasket paper, a little porting and clean up...

Best angle to slab hardwood with csm

Thanks fellas. Makes sense! I guess it all comes down to feel of how much load is on the saw and how well its cutting too. In softwoods where a big saw can power through and pull the chain across a wider cut having the saw on somewhere around a 45degree angle might work ok. But not for hardwoods...

Best angle to slab hardwood with csm

I've started doing some slabbing with an MS880. Mainly ironbark and different hardwoods. Haven't tried any softwoods yet. Question I have. Stihl MS880 cylinder swap (clip type to bolt type exhaust)

You can see the barrel has been pushed out of shape and lifted approx 2mm wide section of nikasil. Its all raised on that too side of the port from the piston catching it. I could get the shamfer back but worried it might lift more nikasil.

Stihl MS880 cylinder swap (clip type to bolt type exhaust)

Thanks fellas. I'm pretty sure the old cylinder is stuffed as the top of the exhaust port is pushed out of shape with some nikasil being flaked off. Tried to clean it up but I'm worried if I use a new piston in the barrel it will just lift more nikasil and wreck itself... it's very much pushed...

Stihl MS880 cylinder swap (clip type to bolt type exhaust)

Gday all, I have an older style MS880 stihl saw. Clip on type exhaust (cast) which I use for milling. It got hot resulting in the piston grabbing the exhaust port and making a mess of piston and cylinder. Only way to get a replacement cylinder and piston is to go genuine ($500ish)... which is a...
