    Battery powered chainsaw?

I had a change of mind and went and bought a stihl ms251. I figured that it would handle the infrequent big trees better. Also, I got a quart of Stihl's premix fuel that is suppose to last 2 years. I got to remember to run the fuel out of the saw on choke. Had the 18" bar buried in a 32"...

    Got a new ms251 today

Pretty much 100%. The finalists were the 3 brands mentioned plus a Shindaiwa. The dealer for the Shin was an hour away and he by far does more lawnmower stuff than anything else. He's a good guy but overly busy. I took my current shin to him for service and it was delay delay delay on...

    Got a new ms251 today

There is a hardware store in Weedsport NY has a new MS250 on the shelf if you or anyone else is interested. I'm not promoting that business, just helping those who want a particular saw. I was there picking up a new file for my saw.

    Got a new ms251 today

I also have to add that I'm impressed with the safety features of this saw. Namely the chain brake. In older saws I guess the brake was activated by the operators hand only during kick back situations. This saw, as was explained to me, will engage the chain brake in other ways as well. He...

    Got a new ms251 today

I like the AV that the saw has. What impressed me most was the service manager coming out and spending some of his time to go over the saw with me. The woman I 1st had talked to really gave the service manager high marks. She said something like "We sometimes get customers bring their saws...

    Got a new ms251 today

The dealer I went to did not have any on display. None that I noticed anyway. The saw to the left of the saw I picked was a 30-something cc. The saw to the right of my saw was a 50cc. The 250 I think is a 45cc.

    Got a new ms251 today

I've been itching to get a new saw for a while. I compared stihl, husky and echo. Both gas and battery. I was almost going to get a husky from a place where I get my small tractor serviced but they dropped the ball twice on a part ordered so I thought "do I really want to get the saw here...

    Battery powered chainsaw?

I'm pulling out the wood stove and putting in a coal stove for supplemental heat to my oil furnace. Therefore, I won't be cutting much wood. I do live at the end of a 1/2 mile dirt road with trees on both sides and we get heavy snow and sometimes high winds. All this means is that I'll...

Where is a trusted source for Shindaiwa 488 parts?

Where is a trusted source for shindaiwa chainsaw parts? I have two shindaiwa 488s that I'd like to get ignition module/coil for. One online site spelled the word 'chain' wrong so that made me suspicious. I got on a venders site that advertises here but they don't list shindaiwa parts.

    Shindaiwa 488 runs for a little then dies...symptoms. ....

Hello, Here are my symptoms for my 488 shinny. 1. It starts 2. It runs for maybe 2 minutes then dies 3. If I let it rest for a while it will start up again 4. I noticed that gas is leaking under the metal on/off switch where there is a gap between the handle and the engine compartment. 5. The...

    Husqvarna 550xp vs echo cs490

Some out of date info for what it's worth. I have a Shindawa 488 that runs like a scalded ape. Shin and Echo merged many years ago and if Echo has any of Shins DNA in their engines, I would not hesitate to buy one. That 488 cuts like a light saber. I also have a Poulan Pro (made by husky)...

Was going to sell inexpensive saw but changed my mind.

Was going to sell my 42cc, pp4218, poulan pro but changed my mind. I've had the above saw for at least 10 years now. I was going to sell it on craigs list but the more I thought about it the more it didn't make sense. Looking at prices the most I could get for it might be 50 bucks which isn't...
