    Lombard Model 34 Restoration

This model came with an AH-47 engine. Don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but my dad told me that my grandfather actually worked for Lombard before he enlisted. I never knew that, and it made this whole project even more fun to do.

Here are the better pictures I said I'd post. You can see the true color in these photos. The difference a good camera makes is amazing.

Some people have asked me about the "Aircraft Remover", that I used, and where they can find it. I bought mine at Walmart, who sells it in a rattle can, but you can also buy it in pourable cans at other places. I think Home Depot carries it in the larger cans. Here's a picture of the...

    Lombard Model 34 Restoration

Prep work is the most important part, but I keep the can about 8"-10" away from the pieces (all hung by wire), start the spray before I get over the piece, and end the spray once I get past the other side. A lot of people make the mistake of holding the nozzle down while shaking back and forth...

    Lombard Model 34 Restoration

I was pretty nervous about stripping the original tag down but I was very happy with the end result. It cost me around $9 for five 8.5" X 11" sheets of the waterslide decal paper.

Just rattle cans and patience [emoji6] Everything has 2-3 coats of paint and 4 coats of clear.

Thank you! Yes, it stripped the paint down to the metal very quickly. It was pretty amazing how well it worked for me.

I'm not familiar with either but it looks like a Carter. What's the push button on the but of the handle for?

    Lombard Model 34 Restoration

Tank decal test run...I only have clear waterslide decal sheets so it doesn't look nearly as nice as I'm expecting the ones to look that I'm going to order from Joe. I just wanted something on there for when I bring the saw to show my dad tomorrow.

Bar and chain have been cleaned and mounted. Finished the data plate this morning. Just waiting to hear back from Joe so I can get the decals ordered and then I'll be able to clear over everything.

Got a little hasty with that post. I printed it to scale and found I needed to shift things a bit to line up and Th "G" didn't match the original font. Here's a printout sitting next to the actual plate.

    Lombard Model 34 Restoration

Worked on the data plate restoration today. I couldn't nail down the exact font, but I got it real close. I'm going to remove the rest of the lettering from the original plate, then print this onto a clear water slide decal, lay it over the plate, then clear over it so it won't wear off...

    Lombard Model 34 Restoration

Thanks, Mark! Thanks! Before paint, all deep pits and scratches were filled with Bondo and sanded smooth with 200 grit, then washed down again. Everything was hung from wire and primed, then painted with 2 coats of an industrial grade high solids spray paint. Once the decals arrive, I'll go...

Is the problem that the engine is turning over so the nut won't loosen? If so then you need to put something soft between the piston and head to stop it from going up all the way while you remove the nut. A "piston stop" tool will work, if your plug hole is is straight on with the piston, or...
