    Chain Saw Mill Question

Can't tell for sure from your pic, but you will probably want to clamp the bar nose somehow too. BobL's double-nose with tensioner design is awesome (in top pic of what he posted above). You should check back threads to see his stuff.

Light climbing saw eletric vs gas.

I've had only limited electric experience, and yes the ease and safety is better, but power and battery longevity is uncomparable to gas. May all depend on the cuts being done and tree type. Pruning softwood with 2-4 inch branches may be fine for electric, but your pic seems like its more than...

I'm super curious about this video.

Any noticable difference in fuel consumption?

    Storing saws.

As for storing for a few months, fuel mix you make yourself is suggested be used withing a couple months, but commercial pre-mix actually has a unopened shelf-life of 5+ years and an after-opened shelf-life of 2 years. The reasonng to the reduced shelf-life is due to oxidation of the fuel. When...

I'm super curious about this video.

Interesting concept if only looking for rough slabs, but constantly swinging a saw freehand would wipe out your arms after a few logs. Would like to know what the fuel consumption difference would be, and if its as less as he says.

    Top Handle Recommendation?

I use the Hitachi clone of an Echo 355 (essentially the same saw, just rebranded). No complaints and I've beaten the crud out of it (I have 2 actually). On one of them I swaped out the 16" bar that came with it to a 12" (safer/easier when up a tree). Actually, I recently wrote about the solid...

Water mist cooling to help prolong life of rings and pistion life when milling ideas.

Hey man, it sound like you got a plan, so why not go for it. Honestly, if you can put it together, run it for a while and post pics of what you did with some temp and output results (before & after, and try to make controlled conditions), I think we'd all love to see it. And if things go south...

Water mist cooling to help prolong life of rings and pistion life when milling ideas.

This may very well depend on you saw and its specific air flow configuration. Many (most... all..??) saws are not sealed between the engine and air intake, with only the air filter covering it. Air filters are not designed to stop moisture, and if it gets saturated, it will start sucking the...

Water mist cooling to help prolong life of rings and pistion life when milling ideas.

Hey, if you're worried, how about installing a fan instead? Maybe a small cordless blower that is focused on the fins of the cylender head

Water mist cooling to help prolong life of rings and pistion life when milling ideas.

Spraying water mist into the air intake or making the air filter damp while its running? Wouldn't such moisture affect combustion and/or the air-fuel mix?

Echo chain saws to do professional tree work??

Oh, I forgot mention, if the kill switch also happens to fail for you too, you gotta remover the air filter cover and pull the cap off the spark plug to shut it off.

Echo chain saws to do professional tree work??

 And some cost more, some less, but neither are free.

Echo chain saws to do professional tree work??

I have a couple top handle Hitachi saws (Echo clones that are essentially the same saw branded differently) that I use when climbing and pruning, as well as for limbing and cutting small diameter. I have literally beaten the crap out of them... exploded the clutch, melted the brake, fried the...

    Shou sugi ban

Sorry man, not my pics. I pulled them off google. But i've done it lots of times. I have a literally endless supply of cedar (sugi). Yeah, inside or out, but outside you can get more discoloration unless you put on some varnish. As far as what finish, the selection is pretty limited in Japan...

    Shou sugi ban

Careful with the wire brush. It can leave scratch lines in the wood, especially if only doing a light burn. Its more common to use a fiber scrub brush (called a "tawashi") But sometimes there is no scrubbing done, depending on the desired effect (especially if looking to really blacken it)...

    AV Gas

Your dealer is an idiot if he's putting that in a saw, or just trying to rip you off. This topic is currently being discussed here: https://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/sunoco-race-fuel.340912/ And its probably time to find a new dealer...

    Sunoco race fuel?

You guys should use the history search here. The octane debate has long since been hammered out. High octane does not mean high energy. It has no benefit in chainsaws and can actually reduce performance. Its made for higher compression engines to prevent pre-detonation ("knocking"). Its also...

    Ms661 vs ms880 on 36”mill

At the end of the day, if you like it, thats all that matters! I run a 2188 (90cc) on a 28" Alaskan and it blasts through softwood like a dream. I imagine an 880 or 3120 would be like a hot knife in butter, but could be overkill in pine thats less than 25". And you'd use a lot of gas. (though...

    Ms661 vs ms880 on 36”mill

With unlimited wood, and a desire to upgrade in order to mill more, have you considered investing in a small bandsaw set up? Yes more expensive (usually $2000+), but much more efficient than a chainsaw in just about every way. Outside of small scale lumber, going big with a saw is usually only...
