    Tree Harvesting in Mass.?

Kinda depends on what type of oak it is. Is it on a fence line or in a yard (if so, I doubt you would have many takers-their is a big risk of metal being in the wood, which would ruin a sawmill blade), how accessible is the wood, and where is it located in relation to a road? I'm not a logger...

    LT15 for a side business?

A circle saw, as in a Lucas mill?

    Fire

@Wildland_Firefighter Could be, but we've gotten tons of rain here lately. The only thing we've had is a few 3-5 acre fires, and all pretty easy to knock down. Is it pretty dry down there in Georgia?

    LT15 for a side business?

Hey guys-I'm looking at getting a small sawmill to use on my two half days off every week. I'd love to do custom cutting and slabbing for folks (I do have a market for it), and maybe get into a specialty market. I mainly want something to get me started in the forestry industry, and to turn...

    Driptorch fuel mix.

Son of a gun, Madhatte. Now I'm sure we need one at my volunteer department. I'm sure we'd use it, someday, maybe? LOL

    Barber chair

Excellent drop there, VW. I was over in Gatlinburg too, after they opened it up. I didn't have to drop anything like that, though. That looks sketchy as heck.

    Dang it got COLD

Looking out at the snow fall now :) First one of the season!

    The Descriptive Process

Skeans, if I did go with the contractor lineup, I'd probably go with a 70cc saw. I still don't know about the whole 60cc saw thing. We'll see. I've got a great saw shop 10 minutes away (Terry Landrum's shop, Wicked Work Saw) so I'd have good dealer support. Maybe I'll run by and ask his opinions...

    The Descriptive Process

Yeah, I liked the one I ran a few weeks ago (when it oiled), but I honestly think I'm leaning Husky. Their contractor lineup of saws looks decent enough. Idk, we'll see.

    Dang it got COLD

Tell you what fellas, I'd give an arm and a leg for some of the temperatures you guys are getting. I wore short sleeves to church today. I need a good hard freeze to harden the fields, for the sake of the livestock. Too much muck. Got up to around fifty today.

    The Descriptive Process

Could be Skeans. I've honestly been wanting to upgrade to a 60cc class saw for my general use saw. Sometimes I feel like the 50ish cc's the 260 has isn't enough for me, especially with an 18" bar.

    The Descriptive Process

Can't say mine has seen as much abuse, Northman, but It does go to show Stihl might have hit on something with the 260, haha. Maybe thinking about swapping to a 362, though. Or maybe just buying it outright, and keeping the 260 anyways :)

    The Descriptive Process

Northman, I did (or rather, a friend did) that exact thing on Tuesday to my 260. Went over there, and she fired right up-a lot uglier now though, haha.

    Axe recommendations please

Well, I wouldn't say all of the modern ones are junk. Our Scandinavian friends our putting out some good stuff. It just won't come cheap, which is why I recommended a hand-hung, restored axe.

    Axe recommendations please

Oh, that's nothing to break the bank over, and you certainly don't need an Autine or a Tuatahi. I'd find a Collins, or possibly a Plumb axe head, and restore it. The whole thing would take about an hour, and can be easily done with basic hand tools. If you want, I can PM you my go to Ebay store...

Been Thinking About Moving to the United States

Come on down to TN! Plenty of good wood to cut, nice mountains, a little snow here and there, a bit of fire. Everything a man can want, to be honest.

    Fire

Interesting article. Now, it mentioned that fires in the SE usually don't get very large, which got me thinking (and if this is the wrong spot for this, i apologize-I don't want to be "that guy"). This would be because of the differing fuel types between the SE and the Western US, correct? Also...

    Stihl 240 vs Dolmar 4510

I actually really like my Husky 224. It just runs straight gas, no mix. I use it a ton around the homestead. They've been discontinued, but I'd imagine you could find one easily enough. I use it for the exact stuff you work in.

    Sprocket pitch ID?

Thanks all. Got a 18" B&C, and it runs great. Like it way more than the 455, obviously :)
