Converting a dumper to a chip truck

Our chip truck is a 3500 chev with a DEL box on it. The box is only 4' tall (plywood on edge) with an open top. To keep chips from flying everywhere, there's two notches cut into the top of the plywood that the screen bar goes through. This allows us to hop in and move chip around if we need...

Webbing slings, how do you carry them

I keep mine on a biner on my equipment loops. I twist my 4.5' loops 15 times and then attach both ends of the loops to a biner. This keeps them twisted fairly tightly and provide no open loop for them to easily snag on something. This method also shortens them to less than 1.5'

    Alternative Methods for Throw Lines

I find that I can more accurately throw the bag in underhand than I can with a big shot. As others have already stated, it takes time and practice to get it right, but once you do, it's faster and easier than dealing with another piece of kit, especially when lugging as much stuff into a yard...

What do you guys do with your wood chips?

I'm lucky in the fact that I have a farmer who will take anything I can give him. We only have a 6" chipper so we make a lot of firewood. He takes it all and doesn't care if we dump mixed loads. Prior to that, we had a compost facility that took chips from everybody in the area, but they were...

    Dmm Rhino, thoughts?

I've had a few with wire eyes through the years, I always seem to bend wire rendering it useless.

I cannot understand why people love loop handle trimmer/brushcutters.

We've had plenty of jobs clearing tall grasses in areas where a tractor couldn't access, and a conventional mower wouldn't work. We have a good assortment of trimmers, loop, and bike handle. I've found that neither were more, or less of a pain in the arse than the other. They have their...

    Dmm Rhino, thoughts?

Has anybody here got them selves a Rhino? I'm looking for new biner ideas as quite often I find the biner on my bridge is turning and cross loading it's self. It's not too hard to fix, but it's a pain to keep having to tend to.

    Best rope for Ddrt?

I absolutely cannot speak highly enough of my Yale Blue Moon, or any other of the colour schemes in the XTC-24 family. I feel so highly about the stuff, that when my current line finally needs replacing, I'll be buying an entire spool of it.

    climbing easy

Ground install a friction saver, install a redirect pulley at the base of the trunk. Tie into one end of your rope, the other on the hitch of the truck. Yell "Pull!"

    Petzl Zigzag

I've climbed on a ZZ for a few years now. I'm on my second. My first one was a Gen 2, and it cracked. Petzl replaced it with a Gen 3, for free, and it has served me quite well. I've recently made the leap to SRT for most of my climbing, but when I decide to do a quick DDRT climb, I go right...

    Skylotec Double Carabiners

I think Groundman nailed it perfectly. A solution looking for a problem. I'm a very left handed climber, and not once have I had any issue operating any of my twist lock biners. Make it a pull and twist rather than a push and twist, in the 24-27kn range, at a price that is equal to, or less...

    boots for spur climbing

Have you ever thought about getting some spur plates? I went through several pair of boots trying to find one stiff enough yet comfortable enough to wear on all day spur climbs, to no avail. I got a set of spur plates, and haven't looked back.
