New bar smoking a lot--because of kinked chain, clogged oil hole, or too much 2-stroke?

I buy about five rolls of chain when ever I need chain. I have an ammo box for each saw with at least five chains in each box so when out in the field there are no surprises. A box or bag of splicing links is only about $10 so why not just make your own instead of the loops. Thanks

New bar smoking a lot--because of kinked chain, clogged oil hole, or too much 2-stroke?

I am having difficulty finding any fault with what you just said. I would like to add that also a major problem with many OP is they change oil ratios and do not adjust or leave a saw to sit for six months expecting it to run correctly when needed. for me I just have about two carburetors for...

    suggestion for catching a squirrel.

Peanut butter does not work which is why I use critter feed which in most cases does work. Kernels of corn split peas sun flower seeds kernels of oat and a few others also whole peanut not butter. Must have a bait tray. We have draught years where as a bucket with a few inches of water will work...

    suggestion for catching a squirrel.

I have two or three methods that have worked well. My Sandy loves the squirrel chasing game and she has become very good at it. One time she caught three of them in fifteen minutes and that was while I was watching. First the larger Victor mouse traps works well. Take a drink bottle cap at least...

New bar smoking a lot--because of kinked chain, clogged oil hole, or too much 2-stroke?

On average it takes me fifteen minutes to clamp up bar and sharpen chain in the field on a 24" bar. There have been tons of threads to debate hand filing VS. using a machine to grind teeth. A chain saw dealer or hardware store is not going to worry about rakers angles and such. Once you have...

New bar smoking a lot--because of kinked chain, clogged oil hole, or too much 2-stroke?

I agree with most of of the previous post as your chain looks dull and possible clutch issues. When I put a 058 chain in a worn 050 bar it smokes like like heck for about fifteen minutes then it is perfect when it seats. Thanks

660 clone port timing numbers for milling (torque)

My experience My experience went like this. I had been using the 070 for awhile going from a 056 driving a 3/8 chain which was not too bad. One thing was obvious was the the 404 chain needed much less attention than I thought it would. Then I got the 660 and thought it would be unstoppable but...

660 clone port timing numbers for milling (torque)

I agree that the 070 is an older design with all around slower revving motor which is more likely to produce less HP per CC. Because of slower operational speeds the older design it has some detrimental aspects and some some positive also. If you do some milling with it is quite remarkable. The...

372 xt - Is there any hope or did I buy the wrong saw?

I have both saws and have torn down and built both. The XP and the 372 XT or extra torque are very different saws. They tune differently and perform differently. They both have good qualities but different. Thanks

660 clone port timing numbers for milling (torque)

I do not believe the stroke on either motor is relevant. However which engine revs higher. I believe more than once there is no substitute for displacement. an 090 will produce a substantial amount of torque period. It is not up to me what saw you use or build. My experience by far found the the...

372 xt - Is there any hope or did I buy the wrong saw?

Very interesting thread here. The Husqvarna 372 XP VS. the 372 XT are both fine saws but very different. In my sixty years of saw experience I have read that the XP version possibly has been the biggest saw ever there is a reason why. They are great I think I have about six of them. I have...

660 clone port timing numbers for milling (torque)

The 660 saws are fantastic saws but not a great choice for milling. The 070 or 070 with the 090 cylinder is a much better choice. The 070 responds very well with a little modification such as muffler work. the 070 is a slow reving bigger bore saw that is quite sturdy. Much easier to manage heat...

What is your favorite chainsaw of all time?

    Best chineese chainsaw?

Each OP has their specific need and niche. My father bought several new Stihl saws which in the past were very good. Now that my father can not use the saws I have tried to make use of them. Needless to say very very disappointed. They are complete junk. I have two 056 they have been around...

16 yo kid inside a mill

I think I think scut has some points that I agree with here. I see at least two major problems here with governmental interference. Time and time again the labor laws do not protect any body from any thing. Many parents are not teaching or training their children to do any thing productive. So...

16 yo kid inside a mill

I started flagging for a family friends crop dusting business when I was twelve. I got paid more than a dollar an hour which was eye opening for me at the time. I grew up on a Air Force Base right after the war ended. I saw first hand many pilots have accidents that ended life often. My circle...

16 yo kid inside a mill

I think the labor laws pertaining to this situation are very unreasonable unfair and ridiculous. More kids need to be forced into labor situations in my opinion. However I am deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life. Many countries outside of the US have fewer or not any labor laws to speak...

I'm 13 and I just built this firewood stand.

One thing that I have done a little with that has some merit. I added some chain link fencing onto a locked trailer and thus enclosed the trailer. I set up several compartments on the trailer with combination locks. A buyer drives up sends in a payment through PayPal and I give him or her a...

I'm 13 and I just built this firewood stand.

My first saw was a gear driven McCulloch chainsaw that was pretty old when I came across it. I think I bought it in 65 and it needed every thing like the bar was not in great shape as was the sprocket was nearly worn out. I pinched the bar found another sprocket that I ground to make it fit and...

I'm 13 and I just built this firewood stand.

It is an absolute beautiful job and you know that. These days so many people do not use their talents, do not take advantage of resources they come across, and have zero entrepreneur drive. You will succeed. You will likely get ripped off from time to time. You will figure out a way to keep most...
