    Chainsaw mill recommendation

You might get more info over on the milling forum, but from a quick glance at the specs (82cc, etc) I'd say that saw will do all right for most milling you're likely to be doing. Just keep the chain sharper than sharp.

Stihl Chain Bars ........What is the difference ?

Barrett's says the part number is 3003-000-6813 (alias of 3003 008 6613). Meanwhile, it looks, from the Barrett's pages (the '6613 vs the '4713) that they're different bars. Same basic specs (DL67, 16", .325 sprocket nose, .063), but the after-market model numbers are different, and they're...

    One saw for milling

Oh, if it's only one saw for *milling*, then I'm firmly in the "no replacement for displacement" camp. That being said, a 90cc class saw will do what you want, no problems. If your other saws are Stihl, one benefit of the 90cc class (066/MS66x) is that they have the same bar mount as the...

    Huztl MS660

 I'm pretty sure I recognise the badge on the pics of the plastic up-thread as being the same as the one in this thread. Interestingly, the seller was quoted in there as stating it was a "genuine Stihl", so perhaps they were using the same logic?

    One saw for milling

I've got an 066 and mill that sort of thing fairly regularly (eucalypt). As much as I lust for an 084/088/880, if it were my *only* saw, I think my arms would fall off fairly quickly -- I can't imagine limbing with an 880...

    The China Chainsaw syndrome

I got an el cheapo Chinese 25cc top handle for pure sh*ts-and-giggles, on the assumption that if I dropped it out of a tree I would not be particularly sad. I've muff modded+retuned it, had to fiddle with the oiler pump to get it started (works fine now, though), and generally put a lot more...

    Oregan chain

Sure, but what someone is allowed to do versus what they will do, given an appropriate profit motive, can be quite different.

    Oregan chain

Tasmania (Australia). Indeed. That's why I'm avoiding them. They're not the only Stihl dealership nearby.

    Oregan chain

I've been given AM parts for Stihl chainsaws from a local Stihl dealer, paying Stihl prices. Didn't bother to go back and lose my **** when I noticed (after I got home) since they were small, non-critical parts (fuel caps and the like) but suffice to say, I'm (a) avoiding them from now on, and...

    Stihl plastic colors

Yeah, my 039 has that darker coloured plastic; I assumed it was either a lifetime of sun, or oil, or something like that, or a different manufacturing plant. Still goes like a scalded cat, so I'm not complaining.

    455 rancher chain issues

Don't suppose you're running 3/8" low profile chain on a 3/8" regular bar, are you? That won't work so well. I've also had a lot more trouble with .325" chain leaping off than 3/8", although I'm willing to concede that may have been inexperienced operator error rather than the chain's fault...

    Stihl chain question (extra link?)

Just to add my 2c: I've got a couple of chains that have four more cutters on one side than the other (got given a bunch of brand-new short chains each with an extra cutter, joined them all up to make bigger ones) and there's no visible curve to the cuts the chains make. On the other hand, I...

Upgrading milling saw but really just adding another

My 066 does the job milling 30"+ hardwood (eucalypts), so it should be good for what you're doing. It sounds like it's going to be a dedicated milling saw, so having a different mount shouldn't be too big a deal (you're not going to be swapping bars around all day). That being said, lots of...
