Advice on cutting straight on trunks of hardish wood

With Husky guide, file rakers/depth guides and different length of cutters is not so much of issue, quite tolerant in regards of smoothness too. Narrow kerf Husky guide fits to standard kerf when little bit of flat file is used, noticed that got wrong guide from the shop and didn't fancy for...

    Brush cutter blades

I think that those clear visors block only 1-2% of light at most, so it is huge improvement over mesh visor. We had yesterday over 80 degrees and I slept most of the day indoors, only dared to go outdoors at night when it was 60 degrees, can't imagine how anyone could do anything at 90...

Husky claims 30% loss of light and for their UltraVision visors 20% light loss, so it is quite a bit indeed: http://www.husqvarna.com/us/accessories/visual-protection/ultravision-safety-visor/574613501/ Haven't seen comparison of different brand visors which would block least amount of light?

Advice on Purchasing a New Chain Saw

Yes, no chance to turn back now, good idea is to start planning new tool shed, when that is finished there will be more tools than will fit into new shed, that is how it works :D I did not start building shed enough early, so I have adopted storage system from nature, there are different layers...

Advice on Purchasing a New Chain Saw

Even electric chainsaw with a really long cord beats bow saw and axe, it seems my CS-2145 developed issue last night, fuel tank vent blows fuel out and saw runs only for few seconds, I wanted to fell a few trees so thought I try the axe method as I had so great experiences from last time...

Advice on Purchasing a New Chain Saw

Axe wounds seem to be bit worse than usual wounds, had to visit hospital again as I got infection and wound required cleaning + need to eat antibiotics. Never have had incident with a chainsaw, but how much worse it could be? :D

OK to hand tighten clutch after sprocket swap?

On some clutch can be put in backwards, does not thread to end and feels hard to turn in, turned other face out and screws in easily and I learned something right there, face with text belongs to outside, it's hard to read if text is facing inside :)

    Brush cutter blades

Good thing I don't have such here, some snails sure, but only about 2cm long ones, not those big ones that you at southern lands have. No dogs either in my tiny forest or yard. Wire mesh visor seems to stop quite well most of the stuff, but some dry dirt / stones seem to go past visor and...

Sure is quiet in here....do I need to start a fight?

Anyone can buy stuff, but it takes a genius or at least a wizard to fix things without money or proper tools.

    Brush cutter blades

Try cutting rhubarb with 3-tooth blade, that is equivalent of ectoplasm (Ghostbusters movie thing), loads of gooey stuff all of sudden covers you.

Bought "restored" CS-2145 (red sister of Husky 345)

I have now run couple of tanks with the saw and it seems to be working just fine. Also it seems that I managed to fix leaking oil issue too by adding little bit of liquid gasket so that plastic body's oil groove seals to metal plate, so only dripping is now between guide bar and metal plate...

Advice on Purchasing a New Chain Saw

I did remember wrong, it seems they have Class III protection and Class IV is the best there is, so those should handle quite a bit. http://nokianjalkineet.fi/en/boots-pro/eurologger-en/?color=orange Not sure if they will ever even reply, customer service is not here quite what it is in US, but...

Advice on Purchasing a New Chain Saw

This is what happens when you try to save few bucks of chainsaw premixed gas and use axe with appropriate PPE (Class I protective boots for chainsaw use), but miss one strike when felling 4 inch Mountain Ash... 9 hours hospital visit with operations and all, about 150 miles in cab, I think next...

    Fiskars...

I did ask from Fiskars about IsoCore axes and indeed they don't sell those here, but they have X46 axes here, which are made in France https://www.uittokalusto.fi/fiskars-halkaisulkirves-x46.html Also X39 and X37 models are available, prices are quite high however. IsoCore does look better...

Advice on Purchasing a New Chain Saw

My chainsaw was 199 and PPE 90, but good chaps to that adds close to 100 more to it, but yes, it does cost quite a bit. I have one bow saw blade that is from 1960's and it is fast, it cuts without an effort and is really fast, it does not matter which of 3 bow saw frame I put that blade...

    Are all axes created equal?

Rust in a saw is bit of challenge, I have softened rust with diesel, few days submerged (don't submerge wooden parts), then over night with vinegar. Rust in saw makes it stuck quite easily, but of course when used enough rust will go away. I like that axe head, hopefully it stays on handle, if...

Advice on Purchasing a New Chain Saw

Upper 90s are such that I doubt I could even move at all, we had few days over 75 and all I could do was stay indoors and lie still, despite indoors being naturally at 65 :D I doubt my little Husky would of lasted as long as it did if I would of used it same way with temps over 90s, you see...

Advice on Purchasing a New Chain Saw

During 2-3 months there are maybe 50-60% of days that I find temp bit high and feeling better working during the night, rest of the months are a lot better in temperature wise. Last winter I tried to use Husky at -33F, but it did not want, had to keep it under the bed, then it tried, but would...

    Are all axes created equal?

I have never done that, also I have never filed from sharp end of axe head toward blunt end like he shows being "normal way", I file from blunt end to sharp end, but also I move file along the curvature of edge at the same time, so after watching the video, I think my filing has some elements of...
