gonna try selling firewood this year

My brother has been using used motor oil in his Dolmar farm saw since he and I bought it at a trade show in 1984 We cut up a fallen tree with it at Christmas - amazed by how little difference there is between that thing and my 372XP

    Handling Complaints About Firewood Sold

Printed info will negate most probs Incl. instructions on how to build and feed a fire, and the different sorts of wood available Also worth pointing out that different open fires and SC heaters breathe differently - I provide split hardwood for SC heaters in three houses, and one has to be...

    390xp a worthy step up from 576xp?

Agree - I found the 576AT and 372XP to be about the same weight, but the 576 has noticeably more grunt I use my 372 in much the way that you describe - big days sectioning hardwood, but only every now and then - sometimes smaller stuff in between A 576 would be enough saw for this

New Chainsaw Selection - Advice Needed

I'd look closely at one of the Stihls with the new HD air filtration system But it would take some convincing (or commercial incentive) to go back down that path I reckon Husky accessories are also much better Someone on the previous page put a note to reconsider the smaller saws - there's...

New Chainsaw Selection - Advice Needed

Good to hear another voice re' Australian hardwood vs North American and Scandinavian softwoods ... I reckon anyone who bothers to ask a question about saws on a website like this is going to be a bit analytical / critical when it comes to using it Suboptimal stuff just doesn't work well with...

New Chainsaw Selection - Advice Needed

Can't overstate the matter of Australian hardwood - two concerns: (a) it's comparatively difficult for a saw to cut; and (b) it creates a huge amount of ultra-fine dust Looking at US/Canadian YouTube etc vids you'll quickly appreciate how different their soft and semi-hard woods are...

New Chainsaw Selection - Advice Needed

G'day Brady - I wouldn't be concerned about going away from Stihl - the air filtration system on Huskies works much better, and that's a big consideration for Australian (ultra) hardwood - lots of very fine powder dust - I sold my Stihl FarmBoss years ago to get a Husky, and have not looked back...

    40:1 or 50:1 mix on 372XP

Well, I guess it's sad for you that your dealers don't know much Can't speak for the whole country, but the two Husky dealers here that I've dealt with here have both been very proficient That said, theory is interesting up to the point where it disagrees with practical reality - and then you...

    40:1 or 50:1 mix on 372XP

I think you may be confusing the impact on running temperature of the air:fuel ratio, with the impact of friction Increasing oil would in theory mean proportionally less fuel, and therefore a leaner mix - and this would in theory mean a higher running temperature - but to observe this effect...

    40:1 or 50:1 mix on 372XP

There was an enormous difference in heat when the saw was running with 50:1 vs 40:1 or 35:1 When plugging hard, way too much heat - to the point where I wasn't comfortable to continue using the saw Completely resolved by raising the mix I've encountered the same thing with a 2-stroke trials...

    40:1 or 50:1 mix on 372XP

I found that my 372XP ran too hot at 50:1 (Husq high-spec oil) - this was cutting hardwood trunks Contacted dealer who recommended 40:1 or lower I've gone to about 35:1, and find it runs much cooler - no smoke
