Rebuilding a Stihl 034, should I try it?

I just read this entire thread.dabills,im really pulling for ya man, hope you get her going soon.Sounds like you are close. My first rebuild was an old 028 fb.I swear after buying tools, parts, and cleaners,I could have bought a brand new saw.But it sure was a lot of fun.

    Been robbed. Five saws stolen.

Really sad when you work for what you have, then some low life will steal a couple grand worth of tools, and sell them for $50 for a dang pill.WV has become the meth capital of the world, and gets worse all the time.Good luck on putting that guy away, and hopefully you at least get your dads saw back.

    Stilh MS311 Problems

Bad diaphragm in the carb perhaps?Might try cranking it several times on full choke,if the plug is dry could very well be the diaphragm or the float needle valve stuck. Im not up on newer saws, but this ethanol gas really does a number on carb parts and fuel lines.Good luck with it.

Stihl quit selling the 241 ?

I really liked the one I had.I had some trouble with a little solenoid in the M tronic carb, but it was under warranty so it never cost me anything.Traded mine for a .280 BDL,wishing I had it back.

    "You Suck" Thread 2019--Pics required!

I really know nothing about modifying saws.A 7910 cylinder bolts right up to this saw?Sorry for a dumb question, but the carburetor has to be changed too I assume?I will probably just clean it up and use it as is,but thanks for that info Pa Dan.

    "You Suck" Thread 2019--Pics required!

Picked this up at the local flea market this morning.Guy said it took a spill off a truck and busted the chain brake. He swore its the original bar and second chain. It runs and cuts really good, needs a good sharpening and a major cleaning.Talked him down from $200 to $175 .Never thought Id say...

Stihl quit selling the 241 ?

I was just on their website and apparently they dropped it.I bought a new one in 2016 and thought it was a great little saw.

    New Guy With Chainsaw Addiction

Great thing you are doing there, may the Lord continue to bless you.I come to this site every late summer/fall when the itch to cut wood gets to be more than I can handle.Although 90 degree days just dont seem like wood cuttin weather.Always lots of great info here, and helpful folks willing to...

    Felling saw= Worn piston?

I will agree with you on that, except for 1 saw that I know for certain was completely beat. One of my reasons for asking this question was because I doubt the dealer gives him much trade allowance,I was thinking about buying his next "worn out" saw.I could use a bigger saw and I really like the...

    Oregon Kinetic Log Splitter

Hi everyone, great site with lots of info.I am looking at a kinetic splitter and was wondering if anybody has experience with them.I have seen videos of an Oregon going through a stack of wood quickly, but what about the mean ,gnarly knots ?Most of the firewood I cut is locust and wild cherry...

    Felling saw= Worn piston?

Ive seen empty Stihl and Husqvarna 2 cycle bottles in his truck bed many times,Im sure he mixes at 50:1 .One thing I do know for sure is he drives about 25 miles every week to get non-ethanol gas.I agree with you on 50:1 being lean.I remember buying my first new saw,a Homelite Super 2,and it...

    Felling saw= Worn piston?

Pretty much from notch to back cut the saw always is laying to its right. On the notch cut sometimes the saw will lay to its left if the tree is big enough to need to switch sides for the 45 degree notch cut.Im no tree felling expert by any means,Im just a farmer .But any tree I cut is done that...

    Felling saw= Worn piston?

Some great replies ,thanks.I always think of the old straight six engines that seem to run forever. The piston is pushing straight up versus a V-8 that lays to its side. The old Ford 300 and the Cummins 5.9 diesel are hard to kill.Im sure the rings give the piston some cushion for a saw on its...

    Felling saw= Worn piston?

30"bar and single back cuts are the norm around here.Flipping the saw over is out of the question most of the time.Everybody wants the stump flush with the ground,as most logging sites around here will soon be pasture.

    Felling saw= Worn piston?

My brother in law cuts timber and it seems he is buying a new falling saw every year, sometimes not even that long.He keeps 2 saws on his landing and uses Husqvarna 372s to fall with. This may be a rookie question, but would a saw that spends most of its life cutting on its side wear out the right...

Cutting up round bales of hay with saw?

I unroll all my hay.If a round bale is frozen on the edges about 4 inches or so,I put the chain on backwards on an old 041 and cut through the frozen hay.If the bale has net wrap, just use an axe.I found out the hard way about touching net wrap with a saw chain. It will quickly make a basketball...

    Stihl 241 C-M problems

Turns out it was the solenoid valve in/on the carb.Good thing it was under warranty ,that tiny part would have cost $43.49.She is running like new again .I tried to recalibrate first tho. Thanks again everybody, maybe this info will prove useful to someone else someday.
