    Kitten rescue!

A coworker of mine saved a kitten that was stuck up in a tree this week. Apparently it had been up there for 24 hours with a hawk watching from a nearby lamppost but the neighbours kept chasing it off throughout the night.

    suggestions for plantation thinning

yeah those were the measurements, just the biggest ones though, it wasnt many of the trees that were that size, just the peak ones. One of my teachers (taking forestry) suggested looking into contacting campgrounds to see if theyd be interested in a firewood contract. Any of you guys ever done...

    suggestions for plantation thinning

Hey all, my family has around 40000 trees that were planted 16 years ago and are due for their thinning. it's an even combination of white pine , white spruce and tamarack. the tamaracks on average have a dbh of 1 ft and stay that thick for about 15 ft, the white pines at most are 10 inches and...

Pruning dead oak limbs during summer

From what I've read it seems like only fresh wounds are potential sites for infection from the beetle which acts as the vector, so I would think the deadwood would be okay to prune out, so long as there was no damage to live parts at all. are there many cases of Oak wilt in your area?

    When to remove stakes?

I would say thats plenty of time, but to be sure when you take whatever device thats holding them to the stakes off give the trunk a light push and see if the ground shifts. If it cracks or shifts I think it means the roots havent taken but it should be fine.

    Over watering?

respect your elders! with that said they don't always have the answer, just what they think to be best. For measuring the water levels there are devices to do this, it might be called a tensiometer but I'm not sure, you could get one of said devices and test random flats throughout your plantation?

    Corkscrew Willow Question

corkscrew willows typically don't grow mega large, with consistent pruning it could be kept to a smaller size. I'm not sure about the aggressive root system. The larger weeping willow or other types might be what you're thinking of as dominators. Have to say I've never seen a corkscrew used as a...

New Home, Question about the Trees

well if the hydro people come around very few years to top it for the lines i don't think you'll have much luck with that tree as they are tall growing, it will just continually be retopped and be stressed again and again until eventually you might lose it. I know you like having the tree but if...

New Home, Question about the Trees

It is a silver maple and it looks like it has been topped in the past which is pretty bad for trees. You can see some of the old limbs have died and decayed a bit, but there are some fairly large suckers ( suckers ar new shoots that come up in alrge numbers after topping) they are not the most...

    Did my Pine Tree die?

To me it kind of looks like a white pine ( hard to be sure without a close up of the needles), what was the climate like for the last few summers where you are? I know the droughts of two summers prior to this past one gave our pines a hard time. Also what are those other shrubs planted near...
