    Chainsaw yes or no

Welcome to the site, Yes go for it! That is a lot of coin, and if the 056 isn't in great shape, I would pass. This forum has a "For sale" page where we sell to each other, you could post a "wanted milling saw" in there. Send pictures when it completed!

    Cheapest CSM setup?

Here's my first set up, Homelite 401 w. 30in bar- 69cc's -$100 (craigslist) bolts and nuts - $5 added a oiler for the tip of the bar from an old snowblower gas tank & already had a ladder. Just enough to get into the game and get my feet wet.

Nice! I bet that stacking those slabs was no easy task! Looking back at the pics, I am really impressed with the milling capabilities of the 394xp.

    Drying milled wood?

Did you stack them to look just like the log that you milled? Did you use stickers between slabs and paint the end grain? My buddy uses that metal roofing to cover his and straps the ends. I just mill them, sticker and stack the slabs back to the original shape of the log and put some weight on...

Welcome, Congrats on getting the bug! I would suggest buying that 395xp off this site, not sure if you ventured over to the "trading post" a lot of good guys sell saws on there and very honest with the condition of the saw and the price.

@Marshy, Hope you don't mind if I pick your brain. Out of your 285, 2100 & 298 in your signature, is their a big performance difference from the 285 and the rest? Any noticeable difference in the 298 and the 2100? Thanks!
