    Shoulder injury?

You mentioned you have pain in your neck. Do you have numbing and tingling, and pain down arm and into you fingers? Seems simple, but I was treated for shoulder injury for 3 months, before I spoke to a friend and it was explained could be nerve issues, which is bulging disk or disks in neck...

    newbie wants to climb

I agree with Mike and JPS. Trusting your gear is everything. Hand saw after a while. When trying higher, use a pulley of another line to run his line through in case he freezes. You will be able to lower him without doing a rescue climb. Make him read the accidents thread on here so he...

    Quick report I just did

Nice job. Like everyone else I would do a couple things different. I would use the term "crown clean" for dead wooding and then define in lay-mans terms.. either in the body of the report.. or with a definition page at the end of the report. I would write it in third person. "our...

Trying to secure state , city and county contracts

from my experience having any knowledge about proper tree care is not a requirement to win the bid. If your not on the "in" good luck. Hopefully the company that does get the work is one of the one's that do care. You really probably don't want this kind of work. If anything goes wrong (real...

Trying to secure state , city and county contracts

Small Wood... seems to be all to true, and there is no justice in it. All comes down to what someone is willing to give up (intergity, morals, diginity) for the all mighty dollar. My experience is most tree guys are honorable, which can be a conflict with this kind of work.

Trying to secure state , city and county contracts

I think they are almost all rigged. From my knowledge they don't have to use the lowest bidder either. Many time's they don't even bit it out. If you really want to get that kind of work (be careful what you wish for), you should join the political party, or have your wife donate money to the...

    Ruined my boots. (Pics)

I have both the calked and the regular Hoffman's. They are both great boots. For removals the calked boots are great, and you can take 3 calks off and wear spikes as well. They also have different types of calks to choose from and if you buy the calked boots and find out later that you really...

    Collection Issue

Just curious, has anyone ever tried pressing "theft of services" charges against a non payer? I don't even know if it can be done but as I said curious. I do know people who have sent things to collections, and it sometimes works.

Dead tree in a neighbors yard..

Thanks for the "props", BCMA. The one other thing that sending a letter to the other homeowners insurance company will do is put them (the insurance company) on notice that they will be held responsible in the event of a claim. They will not pay for preventative, but they will come out and...

Dead tree in a neighbors yard..

Your probably not "guilty" of anything, but if lawyers get involved they usually name everyone on the law suit. Like when you go on a quote and the client says "no way am I paying that". Shortly there after the tree falls and they sue because you did not write down the urgency of the hazard...

Dead tree in a neighbors yard..

You can sue for anything, but yes he would have a case. He should have an "expert", licenced tree expert, or BCMA or whichever is recognized by your state as an expert witness in court, and have him do a hazard tree evaluation. He should then send the results to the neighbor certified mail. Once...

How many of you deal with backpain?

Thanks Philobite, I looked up the products you mentioned, and there are MANY sellers on the net. Would a vitamin shop or GNC sell these products? OR who might you recommend? The Kava Kava looks interesting, and there is a place right in Hawaii. Thanks again! pdqdl... HAHA...lol Its...

How many of you deal with backpain?

Well in the last two years I have had my spine fused twice. C5, C6 from the front in 07. One level did not take, so Feb of 08 I had it fused from behind with a graft from my hip. Sadly the nerve pain has never gotten any better, so I am not convinced yet that fusion is such a great thing...

    Competition Climbing

I am not sure about how many guys are "pro's" (speed climb for a living), but I know the the Jersey champ/ multi time world champ is out doing everything. Large hairy removals, line clearance, crane work... everything... SAFE and FAST.

    Tree in need of repair?

pictures would be good to give a better answer, but I agree with elmnut with the addition of some wire mesh to keep "cridders" out. there are waterproof foam's as well. This will not cure the problem, and has not been proved to work but has some believers. Concrete is a bad idea for many...

    Questions for a new employer

If you are good, and are really looking for a good employer asking them to talk to the employees will tell you LOTS in seconds. You will know if he is a liar, if he pays, ect. If he does not want you to talk to employees then you don't want to work for him. Asking about past employees is just...

    Questions for a new employer

Ask to talk with the crew one on one without the owner there. Just asking will usually put him on the defensive. So after the owner has told you "this and that" you can confirm with the crew. You can ask for past employee references as well.

How Protect Self?: Employee -vs- Sub-Contractor

I agree with BC. In addition you should get a cert of insurance from his company faxed to you directly. If he does not have insurance yours is primary. It is also your responsibility to get proof of his insurance, and that includes workman's comp. Many contracts have clauses where a sub is...
