    Scrounged firewood ID

Any wood is good wood I guess. Never had any cherry. It will be used as stove wood. How does it do as far as storage? I already have 2 cord split for next year, do you think it will last split or should I leave it round? Weather has been pretty warm this year and I haven't burned near what...

    Scrounged firewood ID

After the storms blew through a guy in town had a massive tree blow over. I asked him if I could have the tree and he was more than happy to let me clean it up for free. I am thinking it is a pecan or hickory tree. He said he had some hickory walnuts and oaks in his yard but wasn't sure what...

    Zero Clearance fireplace overfire

Calling all you guys with a zero clearance. I have an rsf Opel 2. I built my house last year so I only have one winter under my belt. I love the heat from the unit but was curious how others make sure not to overfire. There is no good way to measure chimney temp like with a magnetic temp...

Lil help on freebie wood id

I always heard elm was good firewood. This stuff has been sitting for a year as stacked rounds. I have been splitting it here lately and it seems like it has dried out pretty good.

Post 4 was a separate tree that stumped me also. It is amazing how many people tell you they have a bunch of oak lying around for you to take and you find its either sweet gum or box elder

Lil help on freebie wood id

I appreciate the help. I was first thinking that it was an elm, when it was greener I sunk two wedges in it and they stayed there all year. It is still stringy too.

Lil help on freebie wood id

I got a bunch of wood from an old lady last year. There were no leaves to help id when I got it. I cut a truck load and let it sit since last summer. This stuff is hell to hand split and has been split by wedge and sledge and still ain't easy. I am guessing maybe elm, what do you guys think...
