alaskan mill for my woodshed lumber

contemplating a chainsaw mill of some sort. Ive got a stack of pine that has been down for a couple years. The logs are all cut to 16'6" and vary from 8" up to 24". My intentions were to bring in a portable mill but never got around to it. My immediate needs are for about 500 bdft of various...

    OWB water temps

Ok, I guess I was hoping that if I was getting 165 to the HX I should get something higher than 150 out. i will check the actual pump models tonight. That seems to be my problem, when its really cold, the hydro air isn't warm enough to heat the house. House is 4000 sqft moderate to good...

    OWB water temps

I have thermopex coming into the basement from the OWB through the foundation wall (about 12" above the floor). I transition to copper and go into the HX about 6' off the floor. OWB temps were taken about 2 feet from the HX on both incoming and outgoing for the OWB. So the OWB loop is 165 in...

    OWB water temps

So, i got a thermocouple from work. With the owb at 169, incoming copper is 164, outgoing is 150. Water going to boiler is 145-150. Looks like i needa new HX or clean the current one. Any good or bad on removing the HX and going right onto the boiler from the owb?

    OWB water temps

Got a good reliable way of doing that? I have an elcheopo IR temp probe but its not reliable enough for me. I don't know where the actual thermostat measures the water in the OWB but I figured that was accurate at the 170/180. When my damper failed it was reading above 200 and I could hear...

    OWB water temps

Seems like I have some odd water temps on my woodmaster 5500. I have always questioned the incoming temps. The OWB is set to 170/180 and my inside boiler was always showing much less, between 150 and 160. I thought this was perhaps a dirty or poor heat exchanger. I installed a couple...

    Woohoo,MS440

Finally after searching and bidding ive won a 440. I always seemed to be the first looser when bidding, hitting my max limit only to have the next bid win. Looks to be in good shape with 20" bar.should have it for the weekend.

    Thermometer for measuring OWB pipes

Finally picked one up. Couldnt get a good reading on the pex pipe. However, the temp at the sharkbite fittings at the furnace and in the house were both 140*. the black fittng coming out of the furnace was showing 170*. I think its safe to say that im not loosing temp through the lines

    Thermometer for measuring OWB pipes

Im wondering if ive got some heat loss in my OWB lines. Temp at boiler is 180, temp on inside boiler shows 20-30 degree difference. I thought ny HX may be getting clogged so i plumbed in a couple T's and added a boler temp fitting to both in coming and return lines. Temps match what im seeing...

Stihl Chainsaw Recommendation Needed for Experienced, Woodburning Homeowner

Im in the same boat here. Been running an MS310 for some time now just for firewood, approximatley 15 cord per year. Typically run a 20" bar which is adequate for most wood. I have a couple pine that I need to take down that a 24-28" bar would be nice to have. Yeah I can cut from both sides...

    MS 310>390 upgrade possible?

I get in this same situation every year when firewood cutting starts. Ive got a 310 also with muffler mod. Every year i contmplate a 440 but just cant spend the money. Im thinking the 390 kit would be a great option. I noticed both kits listed in the thread mention a decompression valve. My...

    Home made firewood processor.

I think it might be the Remote for the winch. Extremely slow especially the saw. Speed that up and use a full auto cycle on the splitter and I think it would be pretty decent. I'd like somthing semi automated like that. I was thinking a bench that I could load single logs onto. It would be...

    Log lift clearance

For those adding a log lift to their splitter, make sure you check the clearance of the slide before welding and painting! I had mine all together just needed to add the expanded metal to create the shelf. at that point i noticed that their was no clearnce for the slide, arrgghhh. I got all...

    New Woodmaster 4400 owner

I've had a 5500 for 4 years now. Never going back to propane. I burn my pine in the warmer times and hard wood in the colder. I think slabs would work great in spring and fall, but like others said, too much for the dead of winter.

    New Tractor and Winch

PTO off unless pulling. I used to leave it on until my close call. I had one hand on the clutch rope and the other I was trying to loop the line around the lower pulley. The position that I was in, as I tried to loop the cable, I kept pulling the clutch line unlowingly. Came very close to...
