    Worst firewood you’ve ever burnt?

I have no problem burning basswood, cottonwood, willow, box elder, pine, etc because it's dry when it goes in the boiler. You'd be amazed how well some of it does when you get it below 15% moisture and it ain't sweating out the ends. It's all I burn from Oct-Dec and March-April. Put me down...

    Is this mulberry?

That isn't ironwood. I'll try and take a pic of the next ironwood log I come across when I am burning. That also would be super huge for an ironwood. Don't see any cream in the bark and there was no complaining on the splitting so even though I would have said elm I don't think so.

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

Personally I run fog it as it coats the bearings better. You an fog it through the cylinders by pulling the plugs and spray the fogging oil through the holes and than pulling it over 10-12 times to get the oil moving but it doesn't coat it as nice. Running it is an easy fog. With the motor...

Fog your two strokes. Crap happens and if it ends up sitting longer than anticipated fogging is good rust prevention.

    Birch for firewood

I'll take all the paper birch I can get. Splits easy and dries fast. Burns like ash or elm. A good mid grade hard wood.

    Well it happened

Glad you are ok! Heal up quick!

I'm pretty sure at some point in the early 2000's we could take 7 deer around the Buyck area. Couldn't drive more than 45 at dawn or dusk there were so many.

    Pex substitute?

Depends on what temp you run your boiler at. CPVC is 200 degrees and if you are running around 190 all the time I don't doubt it will get brittle much quicker than pex. Personally I'd just clean up the pex runs.

Sad days, Utility Co. tree removal

Sorry to hear. The one bright side is that sugar maple is one excellent firewood. They do it around here because it is cheaper. Once there is no danger that they will hit the lines when dropped they stop cutting. Don't care if they lean towards a house or shed, etc. Just that they won't hit...

Put a deposit on a Wolfe ridge

Awesome! We expect some pics and a real life shakedown of it once you get a little time on it.

In my OWB's I have never had an issue with either. I think the gasification gets the most out of it. My cutting buddy has a non gasser fireplace he burns with and it isn't that good in there. Ashy and short burn times. In the cold couple months here I usually like to have sugar maple, oak, ash...

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

After I upgraded from CB 550 edge to the 760 edge I did my first clean out on Sunday. Had about 3.5 weeks of burn time on it. I got 1.25 gallons of very fine fly ash and there was nothing on the exchangers. Very, Very, impressive. It's not been super cold but my house is big and old. Been...

I split something other than wood!

Could try it or just have it welded if you know a good welder. Than just suction it out.

I'm sure it is somewhere in the middle. I'd rather be self sufficient like you will be anyways rather than relying on federal.

Federal is still running pretty hard and hiring. I deal with a bunch of Vista people and my co workers wife is in HR there. They have put some folks on leave because of shortages but also some folks haven't wanted to shift jobs to other parts of production and have taken voluntary. Still...

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

We do a bunch more grunting and rattling a few hours south of Steve. I've rattled or gruntled in a couple this year. Just nothing big. My nephew estrus sprayed and grunted in a 8 pointer on Sunday. Once he uploads the video I'll link it. Was chasing a doe and she lost him in the thick brush. My...

Federal is running like crazy. There are lots of "contracts" that get filled before consumer ammo unfortunately.

Never had a problem with stabil. Just always used the marine and doubled the dose. My favorite was the "but I put seafoam in it before I put it away". Made lots of money off people using seafoam as a stabilizer. I've had better results with startron so that is what I stick with. To each their...

All my equipment gets 91 non oxy with startron in every can. I cleaned carbs for 10 years as a job and don't want to do it again if I don't have to. If it is going to be a long term sit I will mix av gas or 110 with non oxy and add startron. Just filled a couple 6 gallon cans and it was $3.89 a...
