Would someone else look at the first formula 5 mm x the 3 degree advance angle =15 . Am I missing a number ?? to use for this formula. Were, how did the 15 become 0.26mm. The second formula is accurate

    MS 290 cylinder-thread pitch

I would not use the above drill size of .196-.197 as a base line for these holes in the cylinder. I made a couple of pin gauges this morning .224-.225-.226 . All 4 holes accepted .224. 1 hole just accepted .225 and 3 holes accepted .226 with one hole being hard push in fit at .226 . I...

    MS 290 cylinder-thread pitch

Oh......... I can see this is just going to be a whole bunch of fun. Now to find a 5mm drill bit to check the hole diameters.

    MS 290 cylinder-thread pitch

Found it. For tapping a conventional 6mm hole the drill hole size is .19685 (.196-.197) I'll check with that drill bit size for clean up of the holes

    MS 290 cylinder-thread pitch

Kuhndog thanks on the PM just read it. I'll check the items you mention. I also thought about using the Stihl pan over feeling it was a better casting, we'll see. This rebuild I started it last night, and my first attempt with a new cylinder. Do you recall the drill bit size you used to open...

    MS 290 cylinder-thread pitch

Are you sure on that. This seems like a very tight drilled hole to run those OEM screws into ??

    MS 290 cylinder-thread pitch

Interesting.... I'm learning something here. My cylinder is a Meteor it is not tapped, just drilled holes. My original plan was to tap for the OEM screws. (What screws are you sourcing out as replacements.) My OEM screws do not appear to be self tapping, and I tried to see if they would self...

    MS 290 cylinder-thread pitch

On mine the bottom pan has the through holes and the cylinder has the tapped holes. The bolts are installed from the underside of the chassis through the bottom pan, and then threaded into the cylinder to secure the engine assembly securely into the cradle/chassis.

    MS 290 cylinder-thread pitch

Putting my MS290 back together with a meteor cylinder and piston big bore kit, this cylinder is not tapped for the 4 holes. What size tap is needed to tap the 4 cylinder base holes . My intent is to use the 4 OEM Stihl bolts. Looked for approx 45min and cannot find reference to this size tap...

    Echo CS 310 timing advance

Now thats interesting CS 353 has a standard muffler no cat. Mine is gutted but there is always some remains of the cat left behind after drilling it out, and the fear of metal shaving left behind no matter how hard you clean it out. I do have a 2nd CS310 like new with only 2-3 tanks of fuel...

    Echo CS 310 timing advance

When you say SAI2 modual is this contained inside the coil or a seperate unit ?

    Echo CS 310 timing advance

"I think he means it's already set at 30 degrees with the factory position of the flywheel. I think some coils can retard and advance. I think they retard upon starting and advance when running. I have read that advancing over 30 degrees can have negative effects, like hard starting and...

    Echo CS 310 timing advance

Well it's gonna be one or the other, cast into the flywheel or seperate key. For me I hope its a seperate key to allow me to make an offset key, but if it is cast into the flywheel I can work around that also. I don't know what Mountain Lake means when he says it's built in unless it's part of...

    Echo CS 310 timing advance

Yup my muffler is gutted, carb reset, 14 inch bar, full chisel chain and it cuts very nice. Just wondering if a few more degrees advanced would take a fuller advantage of the exhaust mod, and carb being reset. Just like a SB or BB Chevy, just alittle advance is what I'm thinking.

    Echo CS 310 timing advance

Thoughts on advancing the timing on the Echo CS310. Anybody having done this, and if there was an improvment in performance.

    Stihl MS 250's

Update Both saws have 10-12 tanks of fuel through them. Both start exactly the same 1 pull on full choke having NO false start, 2 pulls on fast idle and their running and ready to cut wood. If you pull 2 times on full choke they will be flooded. Temps are in the high 80's- low 90's. Now we'll...
