    Tree identification help

    Ok, its a poplar. White poplar also know as silver or silverleaf poplar. Its a real light soft wood. Catkins and leaf make me 100% sure. Mystery solved after 15 years looking at it and wondering. I was fooled because we have so much tulip poplar in this area I just see that as poplar. Thanks...

    I went with the Panthermill 2. A 24" goes around $149.99. Its all steel and I preferred it to an aluminum mill. I felt the weight balances the head better and durability is an issue for me. I have used a Logosol M7 for years which is aluminum. Aluminum and saws don't always play well...

    anyone built guide rails?

    I made it 12 feet. I usually cut logs to 9 feet so they are easier to handle. That gives if plenty of space to hang the mill before and after the cut.

    I built my own from 1-1/2" square tube 16 gauge. Cost about $50 for the steel. I didn't need so many rungs but I figured may as well get some more use out of it as a ladder. Weighs about 50 pounds. Predrilled the rungs before welding together.

    In my field kit is always spare nuts and bolts for the mill and saw. Loosing them ends the day quick. Also Compressed air can (like you use on computers) to blow out filter level, square, tarp I lay down (when I remember) makes dust collection a lot easier log dogs jack peavey stickers
