Is a sprocket upgrade needed to upgrade Stihl MS260 chainsaw from 0.325 to a 3/8 bar and chain?

3/8 would cut slower. The teeth are wider so they remove more material. .325 is on there for a reason. I'd stick with it. If you want to cut faster, sharpen the chain better.

Next time my wife complains about the plastic boxes I'll suggest that, thanks.

Wood carrying bag/sling/tote? Whatcha using ?

https://akro-mils.com/Products/Types/Plastic-Storage-Containers/ALC/ALC-39120 stackable and being solid it doesn't drop debris from the splits in the house. Also I don't have to re-stack the wood in the house, saving a step.

    Advice/suggestions for a Newbie

Check the laws for selling firewood. There may not be any, or there may be a lot. You'd also be running a business and there are often licenses and taxes to deal with. Felling trees is dangerous and felling dead trees is even more dangerous. Running a saw is dangerous. You need safety gear and...

    Garage heating options

A lot of inspectors and insurance companies won't allow open flame heaters in garages that store vehicles or flammables. Even if you can get it legally, it takes a while to heat up a garage/shop with a stove. Maybe ok if you're working in there all day but if you have kids you're probably...

    Minimum amount to run saws?

When they first started putting ethanol in gas there were some fuel system components that could not handle it. But that was over 30 years ago! Everything that isn't vintage should be fine in that regard. The problem with ethanol is that under low temperatures and when there is water in the...

    Minimum amount to run saws?

Empty the fuel tanks and run the carbs dry at idle. Emptying the oil tanks would be a good idea if they're going to sit for a long time. All my saws leak oil when sitting. I think daily temperature changes have something to do with it.

    Stihl 2-cycle mix question.

If it's an oil problem it's likely either no oil at all, or really low quality oil. Saws can seize due to misuse too. Dull the chain by hitting dirt and then keep cutting by dogging the saw. 40:1 would be fine, maybe needing a slight carb retune if they're not Mtronic, but it won't keep the "I...

    Need help on saw decision

Way too many people slap a carb on without justification. Dunno what's wrong? Put a new carb on it! It's lazy sloppy work. Diagnose, then replace. I'd rebuild it. Look at the piston through the intake and exhaust ports for an idea of its condition. Supposedly OE Husky components are reasonably...

Wha'ts wrong with it that it needs a rebuild?

Looking for a saw that can handle 30" bar - recommendations???

Patents are valid for 20 years from date of filing. Copyrights are for "creative works" so that's for things like writing and audio and video recordings, not inventions. Patents have to be filed before they are shown to the public and are often filed well before the product they are in goes on...

Speeco splitter and a dead Briggs - replacement options

A gearbox with enough torque capacity will cost you much more than a replacement engine. You'd also need to build the rest of the drivetrain. Another option would be a 540 rpm pump for the back of the tractor but even that will cost way more than a replacement engine that bolts on.

Stihl MS361 Oil Pump Housing Mess

If there aren't spark arrestor screens in that new loud muffler, you might not want to use it during fire season. I don't know if your state requires spark arrestors but even if it doesn't, you don't want to be that guy who burnt the neighborhood or forest down (and if you start a fire in a...

Switching a Stihl MS362 from .325 back to 3/8 pitch. Good call?

Theoretically the narrower .325 would cut a little faster due to the narrower kerf. And a little smoother due to the narrower spacing between the teeth. But there's nothing wrong with 3/8. It might be interesting to run both side by side.

    yellow chain and green chain

You can get low kick back or regular chain in full chisel or semi chisel. I have a few semi chisel chains for dirty wood but I usually use full chisel. The chains I like are regular kickback chains but low kickback chains work ok too. They don't do bore cuts as well as regular chains, and...

Stihl M-tronic technology-is it worth it

I can tune a saw pretty well by ear or with a tach. With M-tronic I don't have to. I don't even have to think about the carburetor tuning. It will always be right. I can just get to work. Getting work done is the point, right? The one drawback and maybe it's not on the newer ones, is if I make...

Saw has started pulling to the left more and oil chamber doesn't empty as quickly

Clean the bar grooves and oil hole and flip the bar every time you sharpen the chain. Which should be pretty often, like every 2 tanks of fuel, or less. They make special files to true up bars that are worn crooked. But its more likely that your chain is not sharpened evenly on both sides.

Critters in the wood your splitting

I just split the wood into chunks and leave it in my wood processing area for a while. The bugs like a certain environment and when you split the round up you change it. They're particularly sensitive to the amount of moisture. When you split the round open you just destroyed that environment...

    Stihl 361 Overheated

It sounds like you seized it. To check for damage remove the spark plug and muffler and turn the engine over to where the piston is visible through the exhaust port. If it seized it the piston skirt under the crown will be scored. You'll need a new piston and rings at a minimum plus gaskets...

    value of residential d fir

They have little value for timber. Few mills will even take yard trees, they're too likely to have metal in them that will damage the equipment. They have a lot more value as shade or barrier or sentimental reasons or just giving the right feel to your property. Especially if they're close to...
