Where should I set the L & H Screws and Idle Mix to Start Adjustments

Pulled the carb and opened up both ends. Found the bowl(?) on the left filled with fine sawdust. Did further cleaning after taking pic. Tested the coil by disconnecting the wire at the coil and watching for a spark on a tester. Saw spark with Start switch in On and Off positions. Does that...

Where should I set the L & H Screws and Idle Mix to Start Adjustments

Guys, thanks for taking time to reply, but please explain in more detail. How's the compression and carb? what the hell does that mean. What are you asking? I have know idea how the compresion is or even how to check it. When I pull the cord, there's compression. that's all I can tell you...

Where should I set the L & H Screws and Idle Mix to Start Adjustments

Trying to get a Poulan 2375 Wild Thang saw started and adjusted. Last year I got [the landfill find] running after replacing the fuel line, filter, air filter, plug, cleaning, new fuel. Idle speed was never adjusted properly and it's always been a bear to start. Pulled it from the shed today...

    Help with Riding Mower?

Got it fired up after disconnecting the kill wires to the two coils. Does that mean those wires need replacing back to the part housed in clear plastic, or does that mean a safety switch is bad. I checked all the switches with an ohm meter and all appeared in good order. Untitled

    Help with Riding Mower?

Well, I don't actually have the mower running yet. Getting the engine to spin was a big first step.

    Help with Riding Mower?

Update: the valve adjustment did the trick. My new battery just needs to be charged. That's why it wouldn't turn the motor after the valve adjustment. The motor turns great with jumpers attached. Thanks.

    Help with Riding Mower?

No problem. I appreciate the reply. After doing some research last night, I spent and hour or so adjusting the valves this morning, but with no luck solving the problem. I believe I did it right, and made 4 or 5 attempts at it. Here's what I did; pulled plugs, turned engine until I saw the...

    Help with Riding Mower?

OK. Um, would that be the same as valve clearances (intake and exhaust).

    Help with Riding Mower?

I appreciate all the help with my chainsaw, was wondering if y'all could help with a riding mower that I picked up real cheap. It's a Murray with a briggs and stratton motor 21hp V-twin motor (model 406677 0344 E1). The mower sat for a few years when I acquired it. The previous owner said he...

    Poulan Wild Thing Carb Recall?

I's aware that the saw is no longer under warranty. My mission is soley to determine if my saw has a carb on it that was recalled, and apparently the cause of many problems.

    Poulan Wild Thing Carb Recall?

I read a comment stating that early model Poulan Wild Thing carbs were recalled and replaced. Can anyone confirm? Poulan Support was useless. They couldn't even tell me where to find my serial number (and neither does the manual). Mine is old and I'm not the original owner. Just wondering...

    What's up with my saw

I read that therer was a recall of the carbs on the early model Wild Thangs and that was the cause of hard starts. Is it easy to determine if my carb is original. No limiters on the carb.

    What's up with my saw

Jerry, all I concluded is that I got it running. After using it a few hours, I know it's not properly tuned. I ordered a carb adjustment screwdriver off eBay yesterday. A work in progress. thanks for the info about the 4 bolts. Not sure I'll break down the engine hat far, but will keep in...

    What's up with my saw

Thanks for the reply. I do understand that the carb cleaner doesn't contain lube for the engine. Someone explained that above. My question was regarding the difference between mixture in the tank vs mixture sprayed down the carb, as someone suggested doing. It seems to me that there's no...

    What's up with my saw

Thanks. I won't use carb cleaner any longer for starting. I'm not understanding why fuel (from the tank) squirted into the carb with the bulb is any different than squirting it in with something else. What am I missing. Are you saying the fuel in the tank is bad and it needs cnewer fuel...

    What's up with my saw

Thanks for the tips. The holes don't go all the way through, so unless I misunderstand something, zip ties won't work for me. I'll give the epoxy a try.

    What's up with my saw

Managed to get it started after spraying with carb cleaner. Thanks. The bad news is while checking for spark I overtightened the bottom two screws of the starter cover. The threads are just plastic. It still works, but I wonder how much longer before the starter won't stay attached. Is...

    What's up with my saw

Thanks for the replies. The fuel is recent, but it did sit in there for a month. I spray some cleaner down there. Thanks.
