sharpening Stihls tiny 1/4" pico chain?

It's a 453 which is 5/32. Works just fine. I think they have a 453/4 which is a 4 pack. Don't grind on just one area of the grinding point [ aka the bit ].. They wear unevenly so keep an eye on it a use different areas on the point. Even with uneven wear if you keep working the larger...

Cordless Chainsaws and Outdoor Power Equipment

I bought the Milwaukee 18V chainsaw when it was on a $299 'special purchase' deal that included an extra 12AH battery. Then I lucked into a one of the 1/2" drill & 6mm hex impact packages in well used condition with no batt or charger for $20!! $10 each ! 5 miles from the house ! They are beat...

Cordless Chainsaws and Outdoor Power Equipment

I used my Stihl MSA120c today to trim the top out of a large hedge plant. I had used it earlier in the week on some 2 to 3" limbs hanging over my drive. This is my favorite saw for anything up to 6 or maybe at a stretch, 8" dia. The guy across the street used this saw for some limbing and really...

How to convert chain saw engines for go-carts

If you can't mount them like in the last pic it's not that difficult to make one run the other direction. It's all about the ign timing. Figure out what the spark is set to on the stock motor and then make the spark happen at that point with the motor turning the other direction. You would...

    cordless pole pruner?

I just saw that Home Depot has the new Milwaukee quadloc [ iirc ] string trimmer with the pole saw attachment and a 9ah batt on sale online for $329.

    cordless pole pruner?

I just picked up a Milwaukee M18 6mm hex impact and a 1/2" hammer drill with no batts for $20 [ $10 each, I'm not kidding :) ]. That's one of the huge advantages to the Milwaukee, the large number of power tools they have that use the same batts.

    Climber Dies in Atlanta

Pretty sad and had to be shocking to the witnesses. Is there anything that could have been done ?? I enjoy watching tree crews do their thing but I hope to never witness a significant injury or death...

MS180 fixed jet carb drilling out main jet to drop 15400 max rpm

The holder is called a 'pin vise'. My drill set goes up to #61 !! The smallest is .0145" iirc. When I was doing a bunch of Holley carb mods for customers the first thing I would do is drill out the pump shooter to .039" for racing use.

    Winch down a hazard poplar

BTW, Harbor Freight has some Haul Master pulley blocks for $14ish which is a pretty good deal. Just be sure the bearing surface is well lubed on any of these sorts of pulley blocks [ also called sheave blocks ].

    Winch down a hazard poplar

Buy some pulley blocks and create some mechanical advantage. This is 3 to 1. The root ball creaked but nothing more. I ended up sectioning it out. I only had a garden tractor pulling so maybe 300 lbs of pull X 3 = 900 at the chain.

MS180 fixed jet carb drilling out main jet to drop 15400 max rpm

Jet drilling is a lost art and many are not comfortable doing it for some reason. It's not rocket science and there is no need to worry about lead in angles and other nonsense that they use to try to discourage drilling and encourage jet buying. The lead in angles etc are already there.

    Bearings and gas.

Grease is correct for wheel bearings where the rpm is relatively low but for crankshaft bearings the balls could skid on the grease instead of rotating. In the real world, probably no problem unless you think that cold start to max revs is the proper way to treat a motor :)

    Dominant wiseco piston?

Why not source a racing sparkplug that doesn't project very far into the combustion chamber ?

    Bearings and gas.

Often main bearings on 2 stroke motors will have special clearances. The designation will be like 6203 C3 which is a Class 3 fit. If the bearing is an interference fit in the crankcase then this is a sign it may be a special bearing. I'm really a motorcycle mechanic but the engineering is the...

    Full Circle Cranks photos

You can't balance a single. If you balance the rotating assy to be perfect at TDC and BDC then you have a big imbalance at the 90 degree locations. It's all a compromise.

    cordless pole pruner?

Milwaukee is going to have two different M18 pole saws. One will be strictly a pole saw and the other will be part of a multi tool assortment. I have their M18 chainsaw and am happy with it so far.

    Dead, Limbless, Topless Pine

My garden tractor is my helper. I also have three TufTug 4" sheave blocks for doing mechanical advantage with my 1/2" rope. I was just in the new nearby Harbor Freight and Haul Master sells a similar sheave block for $13. I would set my rope up above that limb sticking off to the right just...
