Sourwould, my experience is prepping blocks like you have for woodturning on a lathe. The 'rule of thumb' for air drying is 1"/year + Year. That all depends on the timber, the local humidity, etc. I treat the end grain, where moisture loss is the highest, with a wax emulsion called Anchorseal...

I have a 260 and a 440. They make a good pair for smaller and larger jobs. The 440 has a 24" bar and does a great job. BTW my 440 was purchased new for volunteer work on Katrina and has been flawless all this time. Couldn't even estimate the number of gallons of fuel run through this saw...

Thanks for the input. I'm on the learning curve and have no experience with Piltz and had not heard of them before. Have now checked the cost and quality of Cannon -wow$. After reading the manufacturing process I get it. My occasional use or maybe one-time use doesn't justify the cost... Thanks...
