    026 rebuild question

Fair enough. If you are going with aftermarket then consider something decent like Meteor. It is such a good little saw the 026 that it would be unfair to stuff some Chinese crap in there!!

    026 rebuild question

The 026 is a great pro saw. If you will be working it, then I would replace the piston (and maybe rings too). If you are only needing this one for occasional use then I would reuse it, based on the numbers you gave.

    MS440 rebuild, fail?

    Fuel line?? Is it kinked?

    Case Splitter - Homemade

Here is mine. Works great. Went to the local Husky dealer and asked if I could trace his splitter onto some paper. Took a few hours to build. Used 6mm steel and cut out with plasma cutter, which was very rough. The die grinding to smooth the pattern out took most all the time. Would use a good...

    Replace bearings Stihl MS310?

Good catch! Did he mean sealant?

    Very strange carb problem.

Yes I can get a new one posted for around $115 US, but that equates to $160 Aus. I've got too much into this particular saw to spend that. And having a whole other perfectly running 044 already is making the decision for me. I know I can get an 039 carb, so if it won't be a performance killer I...

    Very strange carb problem.

I'm quite new to carb testing. Have you got a link to something outlining the vacuum test procedure? I watched some vids on pressure and did as they said. Nothing about vacuum was mentioned.

The 361 is a different carb.

    Very strange carb problem.

The 390 is a Walbro HD 19B or 19C. 044 is 17A (i think off the top of my head).

Yes I will find one and ask.

    Very strange carb problem.

I know the 390 carbs bolt on, is there much difference in performance? I assume the venturi size differs?

    Very strange carb problem.

Yes I checked the tab thinking it might have some extra material, but nope, all good. It has got me stumped. Just gets way too much fuel when vibrating strongly at idle. As has been said earlier, I will look for a used carb.

    MS440 rebuild, fail?

Check for kink in fuel line when the carb is pushed all the way back to the boot. 044 known problem.

    Very strange carb problem.

I would just like it to idle nicely when I put it down.

    Very strange carb problem.

Yeah ok. If I am holding the saw (general use) then the idle is pretty solid. But when I put it on the ground (move a log etc) it immediately starts acting up. If I then put my hand on it, and calm the vibrations, it settles down again. I was concerned that by lowering the metering arm so much...

    Very strange carb problem.

Poleman, I sealed the welch plug and put a small amount of stretch in the spring. No difference. I then lowered the metering arm again to about 40 thou under top edge and it idles a little bit better. Seems to be getting enough fuel at the top end too but I'm worried that may change mid cut on...

Thanks Poleman. Will give this a try and report back.

    Very strange carb problem.

Update - pressure tested carb and it holds fine to 7psi. I didn't go above this. Should I keep going to find what pressure will cause it to pop?

    Very strange carb problem.

Mate that is an awesome offer. I thank you very much. I may just take you up on it as it appears there is nothing available down here used. Really appreciate it.
