    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

When this tree was in one piece, what kind of tree was it? The tree was on the ground (uprooted), and there are no leaves on the branches. The bark looks like it could be some kind of oak, but the grain isn't oak, nor does it smell like oak. It's a bit stringy when split. It's definitely a...

I will confirm your initial identification... that tree is now firewood. :happybanana: :dancing::chainsaw:

Need felling advice, 40 foot Hackberry

You don't even need to it it hard.... Years ago, there was a pole outside the office. There were 3 cross beams on it as it served as the intersection of a few lines... think capital letter "T". The dude running the lawn mower (lawn service) hit the guy wire anchor and the entire top section...

Need felling advice, 40 foot Hackberry

If you're going to do that one yourself, I would recommend renting an articulated boom lift, and bring the tree down in pieces. It may cost you a couple hundred to rent, but it will be way cheaper than dropping it into a house, power line, etc. Another option would be to have a tree service...

    Stihl vs Husqvarna 90cc saws?

Horse power determines how fast you hit the wall. Torque determines how far you drag the wall after you hit it. Those torque numbers look close enough to me, to say no one is going to notice the difference in "the real world". What are the numbers that people really care about .... $$/hp and...

What carb adjustment tools give the best service?

That was in reference to the comment about stripping the heads on the screws ... why are they tight enough to strip the head...

What carb adjustment tools give the best service?

Make sure that the adjutment screw head is clean. Make sure you are using the correct driver for the head shape. You're not bolting down a V-8 engine head. Don't torque the $hit out of the screws. If the tool doesn't seem to fit, see #2. (leave it alone you perverts) I think it's more about...

Bands saw blade diving on knots and wider parts in the same log

If you can in some way, reverse the cutting direction (not the feed, but the cutting direction of the blade).... Roll the band ... make what is currently the outer face of the band the inner face. This will also flip the teeth. If the band continues to dive in the same direction, the problem...

Ban on gas powered equipment in California ?

It's starting - New California law bans ...

And the power in the shop is generated by..... in the USA, most likely a coal burning power plant. Yeah, that's helping. Plug-in stuff does nothing more than move the emissions. In fact, it might even make things worse. Granted, there are likely efficiency gains in the generation due to the...

    Oh Crap!

I took a 1" long piece of 2", SCHD 40 PVC pipe and cut it in half (along its length). It's not always the perfect diameter, but it works, and it was free (scrap from another project).

    CS-490 with 400 Bar

Put a 7 point drive rim on the 490. Get a 3/8LowPro chain that is 1 drive link longer than what is needed for the bar. That link is taken up by the extra drive point in the rim. You need the Oregon 3/8 -7 drive rim. It can be used for both flavors of 3/8. Using a 16" bar.... if it's a 56...

An Echo 490 (converted to 3/8LP) would fit nicely in there.
