Cutting season in the woods here is from May 1 thru Oct 1. During that time we are in the woods once or twice a week some times more. We need to get out 50 to 80 cords during that time. Some years we get shut out early due to fire precautions....

Storm, Try a chopping block, you would be surprized how much differance it will make in splitting tuff wood...

Because my ol' back and knees won't take it. It's been about seven years since our splitter was last used verticle and we split something between thirty to 50 cords a year. All with eihter a maul or two 6" handlles...Hydraulics forever:blob2::blob2:... === and some noodling

I bought an X27 about 6 months ago, finally got it to the woods a couple weeks ago. Nothing cheap about the way they are made as near as I can tell, VERY sharp... As a splitting axe I rate it a 12 out of 10 on wood up to about 20" that as been busted in half, straight grain wood up to about...

I burn a lot of Doug Fir/Red Fir bark during the shoulder seasons...great stuff...

Actually I burn 3 to 5 cords a year, in addition to Tammerack and Lodge Pole, there all great firewood...
