    Question about solid oak pillars...

Thank's for that - it is worth considering, and my plan has changed over time. Ground is thick, very hard-packed clay under 4-inch, 3000psi concrete with rebar mesh. I do not have footers (floating pad). Based on total estimated weights - the pavilion will be a max of 4000 lbs spread out over...

    Extensions for Central Machinery SawMill

Does anyone know where I can either purchase extensions for the Harbor Freight (Central Machinery) sawmill? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Either that - or the correct size angle iron? That too seems to be eluding me. Thanks! J

    Question about solid oak pillars...

Sure, and thanks. Here's what I've done so far. There is an existing concrete patio. I marked out the location for the concrete bases, drilled 5x holes for rebar, inserted rebar (adhesive too). Wired at two places going up. Built a form for the 7"x7"x3' concrete pillar, bolted it (temporarily)...

    Question about solid oak pillars...

I have cut some 7"x7"x5' pieces of white oak that I just cut from some oak saw logs. I plan to use as pillars to support a small pavilion. They will be on top of a 3' concrete pillar base (surrounded by stone). These pieces of oak are still about 200 lbs each - beginning to crack a bit - I'm...

...and that's why I went and bought the saw first.

New in box, 460. I was about to order the ripping chain from Granberg, and thought "what specs exactly do I need?" Thankfully I decided to buy the saw and look at the bar. I'm not real sure how much difference .050 and .058 gauges are, but between the time the online manual for the 460 was...

Need to remove a lot of trees from new 3.5 acre lot

Thanks for the input - we decided to go with a local guy we've used before and just take down a few critical trees. The price dropped a lot when we told him we want to just leave the trees and not haul off - firewood from the small hardwood, and I'm looking at building a CSM for the pine and the...

    Good milling saw/chain combo

Thanks I will def visit that milling forum. Yes I know about the 2" difference from the reading I've done, but most of the trees I have are less than 18". I bought an Echo already but it's only 40cc and based on the docs I read at Granberg that's too small...but I also don't want a huge chainsaw...

Weird stain in middle of tree

Thanks all! Mixture of woods - mostly what I call scrub oak. Not real sure about some of it. We did have a big storm a few years back.

    Good milling saw/chain combo

I'm trying to decide on a saw for some milling work. I just bought 3.5 acres and I only have about say 20 or so pine trees from 12 to 20" in diameter. I know I will need to split the big ones. Husqvarna 455 55.5cc 20" Jonsered CS 2255 55.5cc 20" Echo CS-590-20 59.8cc 20" Q1: Any experience...

Need to remove a lot of trees from new 3.5 acre lot

And my wife's family owns timber and knows some loggers. BUT::: she's kinda leary of using one of those near the house, and can those things take down 80' trees? The biggest one is 24" diameter and is unfortunately 8' from my house. The biggest hardwood is also very near. Can the feller buncher...

Need to remove a lot of trees from new 3.5 acre lot

I need to clear space for a shop/RV garage, circular driveway extension (to get the RV in), and swimming pool. I need to remove about 60 trees from our new lot just purchased. Our newly purchased home sits in the middle of it - two trees (very large) near the house, one leaning over the house -...
