    Bio Bricks??

Who uses bio bricks? My back is shot, and stacking then hauling firewood is getting old, fast. I know the pluses: little ash, little mess, no insect worries, easy to stack and store. Just a bit pricey, and not sure how well they do. Anyone?

    Oh well...

Got my Stihl FarmBoss running nice, bought a kick butt chain from my dealer, stays nice and sharp. Couple of wedges, 12lb sledge, Fiskars X27 to split (best maul EVER), decent little hatchet and a hand saw for branches. Set of chaps, ear and eye protection, good gloves, nice safety boots...

    What's your knife mines a gerber 97223

Just bought a CRKTM16-12Z from the Kittery Trading Post in Maine. Nice lightweight folding knife. Tanto point, opens with a flick of the wrist, double lock release so you can't accidentally close it.

    What's on your workbench?

I have a bunch of stuff I want to work on too. But my work bench is covered in all sorts of stuff I've thrown on there, and I'll have to spend a couple hours going through it before I can get to these projects. And lets face it, that ain't happening anytime sooon.

What do you do with this bark

Why not just toss it in the fire? Its right there, it will burn. Seems silly to toss it in the trash. You could use it as compost, but again, why not just burn it. I get maybe a dust pan full a week. Its not that much material

Fiskars X27 What a Piece of Plastic

I love my X27. Worth every nickel. Does it split as well as a 30lb maul?? How the heck would I know? I'm not dumb enough to try a 30 lb-er. I like my back. What it DOES do is split as well as my 12lb maul, but it only weighs 6lbs. I loaned it to three friends, they all bought their own after...

    chimney cleaning

I clean mine once a year, in the spring. Brush and fiberglass rods cost me $50, maybe. I burn 5 cord a year, never ever have more than 1/4 of a 5 gallon bucket of stuff to clean out of my 25' chimney.

    Fiskars x27 36inch handle

I have one and I love it. Splits like a 12lb maul, swings like a 6lb. I found on Amazon that they would redirect you to the X25 if you searched for the X27. They were sold out and still looking to make a sale. I'm no good at math, but I did find that it split as well as my 8lb maul in a...

    ash usage?

Oh yeah. To answer the original post, I have never heard of anybody using ash as an insect deterrant. Good potassium source for plants, cheap and effective for icy walkways, but doubt if it will work on bugs.

    ash usage?

Former exterminator here. If they are little ants, commonly known as grease ants, sugar ants, pavement ants, etc., they are more of a PITA than anything else. The sugar and boric acid combo will work well. If you have little kids or pets around, I would use a bait station to prevent accidental...

    Just got my X27!!!

I used my new X27 some more this weekend. Had some large pieces of maple, parts of the trunk of a huge one cut down in november of '10. (They were broken up into smaller pieces by a maniac friend of mine, by hand, with a maul and a wedge. To heavy to lift otherwise) Original pieces were around...

    Ripped Off...

I keep my wood pile in the hardest to reach spot in my yard. <akes for more work to get to the pile, but I have heard to many stories like yours. My Aunt's neighbor, sweet little old lady. She has an insert in her fireplace, burns maybe a cord a year. Her son buys her one every fall. One...

    I love my wood stove

Figured out that we burned 150 or so gallons of fuel oil since october. We had a cold winter, with no real warm ups to speak of. Kept the stove going around the clock, burned about 4 1/2 cord. Furnace kicked on some, but only early in the morning, generally just on very cold nights. No, I do not...

    Just got my X27!!!

Ace lists it as the "Fiskars 36" splitting axe" in their internal system. Nobody had a clue what a X27 was, but she knew what it was when I said 36" handle. It took about a week to arrive, cost $56 and change, with tax. I normally use an 8lb maul to split, and an axe for kindling. Also have...

    Just got my X27!!!

I ordered it online on the Ace Hardware website, had it shipped to my local Ace. Cost $56 and change. Worth every penny.

    Just got my X27!!!

Just tried out my new Fiskars X27. Love it. Splits like a 12lb maul, swings like a 6lb. Thing is fuhreakin' AWESOME!

    Packing the stove

I load that sucker up. Basically I put as much as will fit in. I have a good size firebox, and have learned that 12" pieces work better for me, as I can lay them fron to back instead of left to right. I can fit more wood in that way. I always try and leave at least an inch of air space to let it...

    Fiskars Splitting Axes

There's been a lot of confusion and bad info about this axe. I called Fiskars direct and they told me they would not be in a any stores until april. Mine arrives at my local Ace this tuesday. Apparently the fine folks at Fiskars need to bone up on their product knowledge. Also, Ace calls it...
