    Stihl 009 Piston Identification (Help!)

I just saw your full sized photos. You need to stabilize the connecting rod bottom end to keep it from moving sideways. The bottom end bearings are loose uncaged rollers and will drop out of place if the connecting rod bottom end slips sideways. It's a pita to reinstall these roller bearings...

    Stihl 009 Piston Identification (Help!)

I have attached 4 pages from my original 1984 009 IPL, with notes and highlighting. Hopefully these will clear up any confusion. The IPL shows 36mm piston 1120 030 2009 and ring 1120 034 3000 will fit a 36mm 4 bolt cylinder. You should use new 1120 029 2302 base gasket(s) and 9462 650 0900 (or...

Advice/recomendations on old small Stihl or similar chainsaw

If you want a Stihl saw of the similar era as an 041, try a Stihl 020AV or 020AVP (the predecessors of the 192, 200 and 201). Be aware that these are kind of cult saws, and are about as difficult to work on as the 041.

HELP ME......... Stihl 009 for Dummies

"first of all, what's that nipple for in the second picture, nothing was attached to it?" It's the tank vent outlet. Hose goes from that outlet to and through a hole in the bottom of carb box. See the modified first photo - big red line shows the hose routing. There should be a foam block...

    Just saw another..

    Solo saw identification help

Reese, yeah for $40 you can’t go wrong. Solo chainsaws were great saws. I have a 644, 651, 662, 680 (and a 645 I don't mention). Towards the end, Solo went to this 635, 636, 645 design. I learned the hard way about this design. I had bought a 636 that seller said ran. Cleaned it and got it...

    Solo saw identification help

Looks like a 645, 45cc later model. Check the tag shown in first photo. This is one of the saws that Solo designed to have the cylinder bolt onto the plastic crankcase. The lower half of the clamshell is that crankcase. Please be aware Solo is out of business and new parts are not available...

    Saws . torq versus rpm

Getting back to the original question, an undersquare engine will produce more torque at a given RPM. Undersquare is when the stroke length is greater than the bore diameter. Also called a long-stroke engine. Undersquare engines do not rev as high as oversquare “rpm” engines with bore diameters...

    Echo 660evl question

Early Echo chainbrake is overly complicated. Maybe your #28 "connector" is installed backwards, wrong-face-out? IPL shows the "connector" big peg pointing outwards and the narrower pointy leg pointing forward. Looks like the coil spring tensions the # 26 "stopper" to hold it against a short...

Echo CS301 - How in the world do I get to the fuel tank vent?

The Echo CS-301 is like the 280E: it has a still air box for the carb. Take of the front cover and air filter, the tank vent is at the end of a hose in the still air box. See attached. Don't try to solve vacuum problem by leaving the tank vent check valve off. With the check valve gone, gas tank...

    Solo brand saw

I had a 633 top handle and have the 640 rear handle version. I’ve found no parts other than carb kits, air filters, screws and other small parts. No p&c parts. These have spring buffers where the coarse-thread anchoring screws go into plastic. No embedded metal inserts. These screws can work...

    Stihl 011AVT

Did your shop replace the fuel line and filter? The fuel line gets compressed (necked down) as it goes through the back wall of the fuel tank, and over time can get fragile there. Also the fuel filter can get dislodged from where it is supposed to sit at the bottom of the tank. And check to see...

    Top 5 chainsaw designs

Stihl 08 family, adaptable to almost any function (chainsaw, cut off saw, auger, power drill, brushcutter) and was in production for so long. And 4 that were maybe not great, but definitely departures from a norm: Mall 1MG / 2MG with longitudinal crank. Echo CST-610 twin. Solo 611 Twin. Sachs...

    041 Super cylinder studs

There are 3 sellers on eb*y offering these OEM 041 studs. 90 Meter Motors in Wisconsin is cheapest: use eb*y advanced search with this item number 232222942646. To be clear, the two item numbers I've given are not part numbers. Item numbers locate the eb*y sales pages. These OEM studs are...

    041 Super cylinder studs

Stihl S10 Top Handle Linkage Question

What's the spade connection for in the second picture? The kill switch. Early 08 and S10 had a sprung push button in front of the choke slide. Push the button down and its plate contacts this connector. It looks like that air vane linkage rod will be long enough if bent back straight, with an...

    Solo 635 Value?

Assuming it is one like the photo, not more than a couple of hundred. It's been a while since any of these were listed anywhere, also couldn't find sold prices.

    Stihl 015.

The Stihl 015 clutch spring part number is 0000 997 1509, BUT there are a couple of whole clutches on eb*y for a bit more than $20 each. You could check to see if there is grunge buildup between the shoes and the center carrier, this would keep the shoes from seating down. And check to see if...
