I'm a little old school. I just look in the oil tank and stop pouring when it gets near full.

Need advice/Price for a couple of old classics

I have some older classics that I am going to sell and not sure what the going rate is on these good old boys. Need some fair price advice. 1. Husky 288xp with like new Husky 32" bar and chain. 2. Stihl O38AV with new 25" stihl bar and chain. Both are in good/normal condition for...

Need advice/Price for a GB chainsaw mill

I have a new never used GB chainsaw mill I am going to sell (not the Granberg Alaskan mill). I think GB was bought out some years ago. I was going to get into milling about 7 years ago but not anymore. It is the double ender with the auxillary oil tank. No rails as they had to be...

    GB chainsaw mill: need help

I have a double endded mill but not the crossbars. Now GB is out of business. The alaskan cross rails seems to be the same U shape cross section with a curl inward at the top of the U for the clamps to hook on to. Does anyone know if they are the same cross section or if the alaskan...

    splitter maintenance

Any SJ or SM 10-30 oil is OK for a gas engine. Rotella will be good. I tend to run full synthetic oils in my OPE air cooled engines since they may run hotter than water cooled stuff.

    Poplar trunk splitting - why?

I have several poplar trees where the bark on the trunks has split vertically over several feet . The split is around waist level. They are 4-5 inch diameter and 15-20 feet tall. The split has opened up 1 inch + to expose the trunk wood which is now dark grey in color. What is causing this...

    Paying over retail for Parts

I needed 2 spindles for my MTD mower. Suggested Retail was 54 dollars. Ebay was 20 + shipping. I lucked in to being able to get direct from a distributor for 16 dollars dealer cost each. The markup on this stuff is pretty high. After seeing the dealer cost sheets the markup is about 100...

$1.49 Ethanol Tester - Available locally!

Where I live (300,000+ population) no pumps say anything about % ethanol. I thought they had to by law. When I travel up north its on the pumps, especially MN. So I started asking locally at the stations and the person behind the counter usually gives a blank stare and then asks what type...

$1.49 Ethanol Tester - Available locally!

I picked up at the local Southern States a 60 cc plastic syringe for $1.49. You can go to your local feed store for animals that also sells animal medicines if you don't have a Southern States. Don't need the needle either, just the plastic syringe. Its marked in 1 cc increments. 60...

    Hydraulic fluid change on splitter

These TSC splitters use the Universal hydraulic fluid from TSC that comes in the orange labeled jugs. Should say universal on the label in big letters. The labels were orange in the past. I changed my fluid out last year. Seemed like the 5 gallon pail was 60 + dollars.

    Dolmar Dealer Question - Cuttinscott

I replaced the oil lines with the green ones on my 2 makita 6401's but both still leak a tiny bit. The other hose from the oil tank to the barbed fitting also seemed somewhat hard and maybe not sealing well around the barb. How much is this hose 038 245 110 and what do you charge to mail 2...

    JUCA Hi-Efficiency Wood Burning

Think I'll stick with my defiant. Right now the temp in the cat chamber is 1500 F. Got up to 1700 once that I saw. My house is same size as yours 046 and not sealed well since it is a log Cabin but I only use 1/2 the wood of the Juca. Cold here in KY too.

What to look for in an old Vermont Castings stove?

Cats last on average for 5 years. My VC defiant has the cat in it since new and has been used 5 years every day for about 4 months per year. I thought my cat wasn't working since no orange glow like it used to have. Bought the Condar remote temperature sensor and found it still runs up to...

    Hard Times Score

Way to go. If you are going to take advantage of someone on hard times it might as well be a friend rather than a stranger. By the way, there is always a way to rationalize taking advantage of someone. The easiest being: If I didn't get it someone else would have anyway.
