Biggest Problems For Tree Care Businesses

When vermeer has your machine and says 2 weeks+ you'll be thankful for a back up.

    ProMac 700

Some say 5/6lbs some 10lbs. I go 8lbs for pressure and vacuum. Usually if it holds it for a few minutes your good but I always let it sit for a few hours or overnight. Pull the saw over while under vacuum.

    Can’t decide 572 or 462?

Wider power band, heavy but feels solid, oils decent for a new saw on the husky. Parts are also usually cheaper and can be purchased online. 462 is super light but still feels solid, screams w/ a 20", oiler is stingy on 24"+ bars, parts can only be had at dealers and pricey. Both good saws and...

    New to SRT

I'm in the srt to get up and drt for working camp. Maybe if I bought a mechanical device I could work with srt. The HH2 I got just isn't comfortable for me, I've tried different cords and prussics. I was told that mechanical devices weren't for srt newbies, I think the HH2 is more dangerous. I'm...

That totally makes sense, I mostly see it w/ maples around here.

    New thread

1st job before the earthquake was a blown down white pine. We didn't feel the quake but customer said house was shaking. I found the original tag from when the tree was planted under the root ball which was rotten. It was in perfect shape I could read everything on the tag including the date...

Echo CS 501P vs Stihl MS 260

What isn't modern about a 2511, I think echo mid size saws are bulky but powerful. The 2511 and 590/620 oil great, better than my 562 or a 362/201. I would get whatever is easiest for ya to get parts for. Echo you buy parts online and fix it yourself. Around here your going to a john deer...

Help identifying a tree in my yard that has to be removed, is it valuable?

No clean up used to sound great, if its a decent size tree you still end up moving the stuff. Not a fan of working in a brush pile. Half the time it's cool other half I'd rather chip it and get it out of my way.

    Double check those addresses, folks

I love removals but if you take the wrong tree down there is no putting it back. Sometimes there's a dozen trees on the sheet or boss spits out which tree's to cut in 30 seconds. I often do a few and then double check the sheet or get him to point out the next few. Homeowners are only home half...

    Chainsaw tree crotches

Pretty hard to run my stock 562 at 3/4 throttle, it's all or nothing pretty much.

    Portawrap alternatives

I think the stein may be the best, I use a porta wrap. If I could do it over again it would be the stein. You said it was for side jobs so you prolly won't have a all star groundie. The stein is easier for them than the portawrap, I know it's not complicated but I've seen guys have a hard time...

    ProMac 700

The macs are pretty easy to vac/press test. Probably your best bet since you can't get a cylinder easily for those saws. Those 70cc macs cut pretty well and would be a shame to destroy it.

Any idea what type of red oak this is?

bark is a lot thicker and rougher than red oak around here. I'm gonna go with some other kind of oak but looks nice. Hopefully it stays together for ya

    To look up, or not!

Every tree situation is different but you can usually tell where the dangers are. Cutting in wooded areas are much more dangerous than a lot of residential yards. It's often the neighboring tree branches that are gonna get ya. Butts jumping on ya needs hills/snags/kinks or bends in the tree. I'm...

    Third time on spurs

I like to leave a small stub just below the riggin sling for my climbline when taking a top. Sometimes it's not possible but i feel better having my weight on my climbline for the ride. A big thing on tops and big wood is the guy running the rope. If he's good minimal movement-not good your...

Finishing a cut with a different saw

Looks like metal was there at some point. Can't say I've seen "just wood" dull 3 chains in one cut

Biggest Problems For Tree Care Businesses

Workers and equipment failures. Would be nice to have at least a back up chipper. A competent saw dealer would be nice too, really tired of going through john deer for parts. Someday the owners will wise up and get me huskys so I don't have to drive a half hour to order parts.

I need advice on felling large dead oaks

Holy smokes that pic above is ridiculous, all that to save a few grand. Screw chains, cables and ladders. Get half a dozen throw bags, a cube, some throw line and a big shot if need be. Be careful setting lines in dead trees, many ways to get hurt. Keep your head up... especially on the back...

    Stihl Flippy Cap solution

The 201T oil cap and tank can be clean from chips/dust and still fight ya, are u sayin ya need to wipe off all the oil from the cap/tank as well?

    Stihl Flippy Cap solution

Fuel caps aren't really a big a issue for me but the oil caps on 201's usually are. Young guy passed me the saw up today and on my way up my hand felt weird and sure enough oil cap was on the ground and half a tank of bar oil down my glove/shirt/pants. Wind today blew most of the oil onto back...
