    Canadian 270 chainsaw

Hi mate don't know what they are worth but would be good to find out. I just got my 270 out of the back of the shed today and degreased it, might get it fired up and give it a run on the weekend. Good to hear that they are still around.

Yeh it's alloy but it hits on the crankcase before it locates on the shaft.

    064 coil problem

Coil gap is 10-12 thou, kill switch is connected with a strong blue spark, the magnets feel strong. I was going to try a 066 flywheel but it doesn't fit. I'm thinking that maybe it's a timing issue but I don't know why it would be out !, with the key removed i have tried the flywheel in a few...

    064 coil problem

Well once again this thing has me stumped, put fuel straight into it and nothing happened. Pulled the flywheel removed the key and set the coil pickup to the center of the second magnet on the flywheel at TDC. Pulled the cord and it poped first pull !, I've been trying to start it for the last 2...

    064 coil problem

I will try taking the carb off and see what happens. I am waiting on a flywheel puller to arrive and then I will try without the key and see what happens.

    064 coil problem

Yes I agree with you but after thinking about it, it is actually firing before top dead center with out the compression so nothing is happening. I just don't understand why ?, it ran when I bought it.

    064 coil problem

Yeh it's wet, i dont think that fuel is a problem.

    064 coil problem

Yeh close but not right i dont think. Your coil lines up with the fin but mine lines up with the rivit. I think my saw will be firing before the piston gets to TDC, so it will not start.

So I received the vec coil yesterday and fitted it today, put everything together pulled the cord and suprise suprise nothing happened !. Strong blue spark. No recoil no pop no nothing !. How do I set the timing on a chainsaw ?. Top dead center and what should line up ?

    064 coil problem

Ok thanks for the info, it doesn't get easier does it. What are the chances of the vec coil being wrong ? Thanks

    064 coil problem

Yeh thats why I have been asking so many questions about the timing position, it didn't make sense to me why I would need to slot the mounting hole. I think I will just buy the vec coil as it seems that should fix all the problems i have with the saw. I will put up some photos of the 3 coils...

    064 coil problem

I see, part of the reason i got this coil is the it had the 1300 numbers. I will post a photo of the coil that was in the saw and running when I bought it and a picture of the box it came in when the last owner bought it. Same number.

    064 coil problem

This is the coil that I bought. Advertised as high quality but from what I can work out it seems like crap !. Nah I don't think that i need a picture but I don't know what is supposed to line up at TDC to set the timing ?. Is the VEC stuff good quality ? Thanks
