    Trying to optimize firewood processing

Thanks Ted, I agree with you. At some point you have to weigh out what is worth managing in order to save time in what you are trying to accomplish. I do somewhat loosely stack on the trailer and you make a good point to say only stack at the final destination. It makes simple sense! The...

    Trying to optimize firewood processing

Attached is a current birds eye sketch for what my place looks like around the firewood and boiler situation. I burn around 10 cord/yr if it's a cold one. The past few years I cut at the pile and "sort" for splits vs stack. All splitting is done from near the log pile and then I load and run...

    Brand New 2001 - 372XP

I really do not know what to do and wanted to get unique perspectives from a community who has a passion for all things saws. To be completely honest, I started it up yesterday for my first time and it was hard to hold it all together... Though, could have all been out of boredom, I suppose.

    Brand New 2001 - 372XP

@lostone @J D - Much apricated feedback. I like the idea of remembering him while using and maintaining it as a tool that should be ran. If i do run it I will need to find a good job to break it in right! @Stihl99 - Your words are sitting on my other shoulder... We never had that...

    Brand New 2001 - 372XP

Need some input. I have a brand new 2001 372xp that has never touched wood. It has been started every year or so to keep things fresh and moving but spent its life on display. The saw was given to my dad as an award back in 2000 and he decided right away that he would never run it...

Post pictures of your woodpile/splitting area

Yes. I suppose but getting it on the trailer that way is tough. I used a tractor with the hitch to back it on this one which is a tilt trailer. With a few people it would be possible to get a run and push it up the other way around.

Thought I'd share. Working out even better than the idea itself, for once. If anyone ever transports the splitter over a decent distance I would recommend. It may even be a better set up than using it "normal". Now not every trailer would qualify as a good candidate but sure beats unloading and...

    Dead. OLD. White Pine.

@ElevatorGuy - Good point. My sister had just bought the place so we were left with the situation. Thinking about it, how does someone go that long starting at it dead, all while hanging over your garage... I'm not even sure the garage is 20yrs old so that could also mean someone built it...

    Dead. OLD. White Pine.

Just took this down last weekend. limbed the best I could first. There is a rope about 10ft higher than the cut. After dropping what's in the video, took it down by chunking it as it had a lean towards the garage. There was also an secondary limb almost as high that we took off earlier...

That's a great stack. How many cord in that? @al-k That a full 10 from a load this spring to the house. I have another 6 or so still that is not cut up yet. I go through almost 10/yr... looking at a few things to try and bring that down a bit. 10/yr is wearing on me!

    026 Find - With a cool history!

Awesome! thank you @Tom Woolley, That would defiantly line up with my story as well. Good deal! I really do like the saw. I have the new MS261 and it's far superior in the cutting speed and anti-vibe areas but still very relevant and fun to cut with. The 026 has a 16" bar and will be good for...

Should I Stop Using a File to Sharpen Chains?

My experience has been practice, practice, practice. @holeycow says it spot on. I bought the Stihl guide with the raker file combo thingy. It worked great until it i noticed it was taking off a lot of raker on one side and almost nothing on the other. Began to cut crooked too! I realized at...

    026 Find - With a cool history!

Hey everyone! Just thought I would share what I discovered after buying a nice used 026. In the last picture, for any of you boaters out there, maybe even some non-boaters from Michigan, Charlie Winn was a founder of Four Winns boats. I put it together after starring at it and thinking about...

I must be sitting on a gold mine! I have 20 cord of this stuff. It's even piled up nice ready to be cut!

STATE FOREST FIREWOOD PERMIT - MICHIGAN

Yeah I may have to start "wandering" more often. I'm up in Cadillac. That is quite a bit of tops! harvested or is it from the storm?

STATE FOREST FIREWOOD PERMIT - MICHIGAN

90 days to get what you want or at least 5 cords worth. And yes Duce, only on the ground... When I was a kid my dad and I cut from a roughly 25 acre stand up in the U.P with lots of beach, maple, oak, some basswood, even a little ironwood. Just cleaning up the ground and downing just the dead...
