Beaver Tooth has some nice hickory handles don’t they?

    Axe restoration thread

Well it showed up with a really bad rehang, I believe it should be a permabond axe due to the paper label. I drilled the wedge and removed the head it is surprisingly in great shape. I also stripped the red stain to saturate the handle in BLO. I placed it upside down in a cup of linseed and...

    Axe restoration thread

Well this is gonna be my handle for a Plumb 28” jersey/rock away I bought from eBay. The original red stained handle is warped or it has a bad rehang not sure till it shows up. I’ll keep posting pics as it progresses. Wish me luck.

Split some of the trunk wood from the hickory that fell last week. Borrowed a good friend’s splitter because it was slow going with the fiskers. Gonna be great stuff for 2026. One round of white oak that was too knotty got the same treatment.

Went to test out my winch I got for Christmas and ran up on this beauty of a hickory on the ground. I cut the top up to clear the trail and loaded the wood. Going back today to work on the trunk, probably 30 rounds in it. God provides!

Help me with my two-saw plan

Good luck on whatever you buy. I started out with a 170, gave that to a son and bought the 261 it does all my firewood chores and does it well. I recently got the itch for more power/speed so I purchased the 400, have not regretted that purchase one time. So my 2 saw plan is 261/400, that works...

Thinking about MS 400. Is my 462 a keeper?

Not being a smart azz but do you know to to reset a 3.0 M-Tronic? 30 seconds WFO.

Looking to add a pro ~70 cc saw to the fold so that my son and I can both run saws

I did almost the same thing, I gave my son the ms261 and bought myself an ms400. It screams in my opinion, I use a lite 20” bar and it never fails to put a smile on my face. I’ve never tried or really needed a 25” bar so I can’t comment on that part. But I can tell you that after installing a...

Yep, all the ash here in KY looks like that. I’ve only saw one EAB on about 10 trees, they must hide well or disappear.

My buddies 661 and his uncles 250, the 400 stayed nice and warm in the truck.

A friend had 4 pin oaks cut down and needed rid of the wood. Me and a buddy gladly helped out, all it needed was split and hauled. We took two loads and the guy still has some left. Ought to be nice for 2025!

    Best new "medium duty" saw?

Another vote here for the 400. I also have the 261 m-tronic version, both have not let me down. Although I did have a hard to restart when warm situation once on the 261, but now I do as others have stated and let it idle 15 seconds before shutting down and have not had that happen again. I love...

    Stihl MS 261 c-m

I have about the same experience as others here, love the 261. Mine is M-tronic and hasn’t had the first problem since 2018. As stated it pulls an 18” in hardwood great, but mine currently wears a 16” bar just to lighten it up some. It will cut anything I have ran upon, it will even noodle...

Had a wonderful Easter Sunday with the family, followed up by some peace and quiet by the fire pit for reflection. We live in a great country no matter what the politicians do they will never take our freedom of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Keep on keepin on fellers!

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

Noodled some of my last birch scrounge today, almost finished with 2024 wood. I’m a little light on wood for this winter coming though, need to find something that will dry in a years time to add to the pile.
